Are the results of Radiesse in the cheeks ever permanent?

Question

I got Radiesse injected (1/2 a syringe) in my cheeks in October 2015. I had had Radiesse injected several times before over the past few years and loved the results. This injector put the Radiesse in the wrong place, on the apples of my cheeks. It looks terrible. I finally consulted a plastic surgeon in December 2015. He told me the Radiesse would *probably* dissolve within a year, but he said the effects are sometimes permanent and the Radiesse never dissolves in some patients. Is this true?

Radiesse filler typically lasts for around 12-18 months once injected, however every patient is different. There are cases where the filler survives for up to two years after it was initially injected.

I have never seen the results of any Radiesse injection be permanent, however, the time for the results to dissipate can vary.  I would say the longest it should last would be 18 months.

While radiesse can stimulate your body to build its own collagen, radiesse itself is not permanent.  The product generally lasts about a year, but some patients will have it a bit longer.  however, injection of hyaluronidase to help break up some of the product has been successful in several patients.  You may want to discuss that option with your injector so you don't have to live like that for a full year.  Good Luck!

I have never seen or heard of Radiesse being permanent.  There is some collagen stimulation due to Radiesse which may be the permanent part that the surgeon is talking about.  However, the Radiesse will not be permanent.  Good Luck!

Radiesse is a semi-permanent filler which lasts about 18 months. The product can stimulate the production of collagen which is permanent. Not really, but this needs to be explained.The material itself is virtually always dissolved (by the body) over a several month period.  Results are often maintained for 12-18 months, though sometimes not that long.  The calcium hydoroxylappatite crystals stimulate some collagen formations, and it is that combination that persists.However, repeated trauma from any source - including needles - can cause a certain degree of internal scar tissue formation (collagen) and that may be permanent.  Some patients have described needing less filler over time to achieve a desired result, and that could be, at least partially, from some aspect of permanency from the injections, whether the material, the process, or both.In your case, however, it is too early to focus on that.  Most likely, your results (and I'm sorry that you're not happy with them) will disappear over the next year or so. Hi,Radiesse can be semi-permanent. However, it varies from patient to patient and depends on where it is injected. There is some evidence that if radiesse is injected over the periosteum (bony covering ) the periosteum will calcify  some of the radiesse making it permanent. If the radiesse is injected within the soft tissue of the cheek, it is likely to dissolve with a period of 4 to 6 months.Best,Dr.S.
