What type of collagen does sculptra build? Does taking collagen supplements help maximize results? What are some tips to maximize results? Would it be more beneficial to wait longer between treatments to maximize layers of collagen being built on? I have researched and it seems like some doctors inject under skin and some under muscle, which is best and does the patient have an option of preference or is it whatever technique the doctor uses? Thank you!!

Sculptra is a great aesthetic treatment, with many uses! I thnk you have raised some really good questions. In our clinic we usually wait to see the patient in order to decide on the number of vials.  In our clinic we inject in the deep dermal subcutaneous plane (not below the muscle). Injecting below the muscle will not stimulate the collage turnover.  Sculptra caused the production of collagen three which we lose as we age. Taking a collagen stimulator has not shown any improvement on sculptra. Many oral collagen stimulators are broken down in the gut and have little to no clinical benefits. We usually see the patients every 4-6 weeks and number of treatments vary by the patients desired end results. I recommend an in person evaluation with a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss these issues further.  All the best.

I appreciate your question. Most patients need 1 vial per decade of life. So, if you're 50, then having 5 to 6 vials is reasonable. I would wait at least 6 weeks in between treatments, but you can go slower. Best. Dr. ALDO

Sculptra Aesthethic stimulates increased collagen I and III production. Most patients require 3 treatment sessions using 2 vials per session and treatments spaced out at 1-2 month intervals. I do not believe a collagen supplement helps maximize results. This is a filler that is placed deep in the skin.
