Concerned about my Sculptra treatment (I'm a worrier). Was treated for a slightly gaunt face after a heavy fitness lifestyle.

Question

My PS explained to me that my nasalabial lines were caused by hollow cheeks from years of hard cardio activities, causing some lower sagging. I had my cheeks treated with 1 vial Sculptra. Despite my PS explaining there would be initial swelling, I was concerned afterwards as I looked really 'filled'. A couple of days later I loved how it looked once it had gone down slightly. I know it's my first treatment, but I'd just like some more opinions? Is it possible to overdo Sculptra?

Treatment with Sculptra normally involves several treatment sessions spaced over time to produce gradual filling.  Because it is a gradual process, it is not common to see an overdone result.  Essentially, once the desired appearance has been achieved, the treatments can stop and you, as the patient, can be the judge of when you are satisfied.

It’s possiblt to overdo Sculptra, but not with 1 vial! Generally speaking, For a full correction using 1 vial per decade is the way to go. So if you’re 50, perhaps a good recommendation might be 5 vials over a 6 month period. Speak with your surgeon about your concerns.

Thank you for sharing your question and congratulations on your Sculptra treatment!  Because Sculptra produces its results gradually over time it is difficult to over do Sculptra.  Most patients benefit from serial treatments each month before allowing six months to pass to see their final collagen and soft tissue response.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing - this can happen with Sculptra. In your case however it is very unlikely - one vial of sculptra is very little and typically patients require on the order of six to get full correction. Above that is when undesired results are seen. Best of luck!

Hi there. I find that my patients with very lean faces do not tolerate much filler without feeling overfilled. I think your physician has chosen the right filler for you, and you will probably love the results. I also find that my physically fit patients often need filler more often than my other patients. It is possible to overdo Sculptra, but 1 vile will not.  This is one of my favorite aspects of Sculptra because it’s a gradual change.  We recommend waiting an around 5 weeks for a second treatment. This of course can vary based on age and amount of volume loss.

I "always" recommend 6 week, so you can see fine growth occurrences. Than if needed a second session. Usually most take up to 3  week intervals between Sculptra injections.

The results one sees immediately after Sculptra injections is simply water that the product is mixed in. That will be absorbed in a couple days. Collagen is then stimulated by the PLLA particles. The results from the treatment can take 3 weeks to even start to produce collagen and 3-4 months to see the full results. It is possible to overfill with Sculptra and if that is a concern, I would wait it out before your second injection. Although most doctors recommend treatment at 4 weeks, there is little to no volume produced at this time. It is fine to reinject if there is significant volume loss and there is no question in the doctor's mind that more is needed from the initial consultation. Also, results from Sculptra injections will last for 5-7 years in my opinion and not the 2 years that is given by the company. The FDA trial was stopped at the 25 week mark and there was only minimal loss of volume from the peak correction at this time (~85%).

Sculptra is one of my favorite treatments for the right candidate and you sound like you are. It's very hard to overdo Sculptra with only one vial in one session. Usually one or frequently two vials are placed at the first session and often 3 to 4 sessions would be necessary for a complete correction. But the sessions are usually spaced weeks to months apart to avoid overcorrection. Don't worry and go back to see your physician at the interval that he recommended.
