Sore after wearing underwire bra 5.5 weeks post breast augmentation. Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your question!  It sounds to me like you were just wearing a bra that was a bit too tight.  While it's unlikely that you've done any damage to your breast implants, I would call your PS anyway to put your mind at ease.  Good luck!

You should see your surgeon just in case. In general, I recommend wearing underwire bras only until after the first 2 months of surgery If you find that they're uncomfortable, then you should avoid wearing them because your body is telling you that it hurts. The underwire may be improperly shaped. If you want to wear underwire bras, try having a custom bra fitting to see if you can find something that's more comfortable. You can also wear wireless bras, as many types provide plenty of support.The problem with wearing underwire bras shortly after surgery is that it can cause unnecessary complications. These complications include irritation caused by the wire rubbing against the skin (something that you may not notice due to possible numbness). Displacement can also occur.However, please see your surgeon for their advice as they may have different guidelines.

Be certain that a bra particularly with and underwire does not irritate the incision. If the bra was too tied it should be exchange for something that is supportive but not painful. 

Underwire bras can be a problem early in the recovery. I would definitely discuss this with your plastic surgeon. I would refrain from using it any further. Sports bras are good in the interim until you have completely healed and can wear a commercial bra. Good luck

It sounds unlikely that you would have done any serious damage by wearing a bra that was undersized. My recommendation would be to call or email the practice and let them document the event in your chart so that your patient history is thorough in the event that something does occur down the line.

It is unlikely that you did any permanent damage by wearing an underwire bra for 2-3 hours 5 1/2 weeks after surgery. I would check in with your surgeon to clarify their instructions regarding underwire bra wear, etc.

It doesn't sound like you should be very concerned. Typically, patients experience this if their incision is at inframammary fold, especially after vigorous physical activity.

I see no cause for concern, nor surprise that a bra that does not fit properly is problematic. Many shops have expert fitters that can help you choose the right brand and size. In the meantime a loose fitting sports bra will likely do well.All the best. 

By five weeks after augmentation you are safe to wear any bra you wish without harm, though the tissue might be tender for a month longer. A soft cup bra, or a better fit is the best option.

It doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about after your experience the other day. But.... does your plastic surgeon know you are wearing an underwire bra so soon after breast augmentation? Be sure to ask if this is okay. I don't allow my patients to wear push-up or underwire bras for 3 months following surgery.
