Latisse - I have noticed alot of people experience major side effects with the generic!

Question

How would i know that the product is not an actual generic of Latisse? please help! I am from South Africa and i do not trust the retailers here with regards to this. Therefore i am waiting for my trip to the USA in dec and i will be sure to purchase there. (carisasaul@yahoo.com)

Thank you for your question. The only FDA approved eyelash enhancement is Latisse distributed by Allergan. It should be applied as indicated, anything else should not be applied as Latisse. Best,

Latisse has no
generic equivalent so if someone in South Africa is selling you something like
this, it is not Latisse and there is nothing comparable available. There are
many “fake” products around the world, and the problem with this is that what
you think is safe and effective because they use the word Latisse, is not the
same as what we have available here in the US and sold by Allergan, which then
sets up potential concerns and potential adverse events, which can cause other
problems. Only use branded products that are approved in your country – I give
lectures on fake products at meetings all over the world and this trend is very
common, although we are all hoping that the problem will go away. Unfortunately,
some people are trying to capitalize on a branded product with consumers that
don’t understand. You understand – wait until you are in the US and get the
real thing.

Latisse is the only FDA approved eyelash growth treatment in the U.S. There are no generic versions available. So, if you have something overseas that's marketed as a "generic" form of it, we can't comment, because we have nothing other than Allergan-made Latisse here in the U.S. that has a long-standing efficacy and safety record."This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and

There is no generic Latisse available at this time. I agree with Dr Jugenberg "s comment that the Allergan product is the only Latisse that is FDA approved in the US. My patients have had no adverse effects. I recommend that you see a physician you can provide you with the brand name medication.

In the USA all Latisse is brand specific and made by Allergan.   However, it is a prescription medication, so you will need to see a physician who, depending upon the state your visiting can provide the medication for you or give you a prescription to be filled in a pharmacy.
