Dear Stokkies: The use of Silhouette InstaLift Sutures produces an: Immediate physical compressing and lifting effect on the subcutaneous tissues it is threaded through, and Lifts the adhered tissues by contraction during the formation of collagen stimulated by the poly-L-lactic acid molecule the thread is made from. In its simplest technique, the linear vector chosen to pull or lift tissues of the face is the direction these actions will occur. Made of a thin suture with knots holding cone-shaped anchors, the needle is passed through a puncture in the skin and threaded in opposing directions for the anchors to engage on the web of fibers holding the skin, fat and underlying muscle together. Pulling the Silhouette suture in the desired direction will compress and engage the anchors through the fibrous web lifting the tissues and with time, cause further firming and collagen scaring with its inherent tissue tightening. Knowledge of this controlled inflammatory process of healing, cautions the Artist/Surgeon that it takes no less than 2 to 3 weeks before the Silhouette sutures are set in place with little risk of relapse. Should you more simply place the sutures for the poly-L-lactic acid or limited Sculptra effects without mechanical lift, then movement can occur 24 hours following their placement. I hope this is helpful. All the best!
