Is it normal to have "sharp" on touch bumps after Instalift? (Photo)

Thank you for your question. It can be not uncommon to have bumps from the procedure that resolve over time as the thread material dissolves on its own. Sometimes if the bumps still persist longer than expected, the cone or piece of thread can be removed, as your provider has tried to do. Swelling in the areas where the threads were placed can occur immediately after the procedure and typically take days and sometimes up to weeks to go away. I recommend you re-discuss your concerns with your provider and seek close follow-up evaluation. 

Bumps can be typical for a short period of time after a Silhouette, especially with people withthin skin. I recommend returning to the person who performed the procedure for a second lookand reassurance.

Bumps are not typical with Silhouette, but can occur if the thread has been placed too close to the underside of the skin surface.  The best solution is injection of any hyaluronic acid filler such as juvederm or restylane under the skin over the thread to provide cushioning and to hide it.  They will eventually soften and dissolve over time, but can take 6 or more months to do so.

Thank you for your photo. Typically threads dissolve over time and settle in the skin so this shouldn’t be an issue. I would contact your provider immediately for a in person evaluation. As always, please make sure you seek treatment from a board-certified dermatologist.  

i have seen localized swelling, particularly under the eyes after some procedures. it will resolve in time. warm compresses can help.you should not have any sharpness to the skin unless a suture is protruding a bit. Please return to our surgeon for reevaluation

Thank you for sharing your photos and your concerns.  The sharp "bumps" you are experiencing may be a superficial placed dissolving thread.  The swelling under the eye is likely due to the high placement of the upper Instalift suture along the upper zygoma (cheek bone).  Please return to your board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon for further evaluation.  He or she may consider using a Norco needle to release the superficial portion of the thread while using intralesional kenalog to calm down the granulomatous reaction. Best of luck,Suneel Chilukuri, M.D.Houston, Texas

After the treatment the lumps can be more visible up to 2 weeks after the treatment and can be felt up to 2 weeks as well, depending upon the depth and placement of the sutures. The sutures are completely absorbable and it take up to 8 weeks for your body to reabsorb them and after the lumps will not be  noticeable but your own tissue will be held in a higher position for up to 18 months.

The typical finding of to superficially place InstaLift sutures. The 'bumps' are the Sculptra cones just under the skin or in the skin (intra dermally placed incorrectly). I recommend small stab incisions with removal of the 'bump/cone/s". The techniques to achieve the Silhouette forehead lift is more advanced in the Silhouette off label uses. Only a true expert should offer this off label application. When this is done properly the result are wonderful. 

Yes, this has been a known side effect. Depending on the levels, and the last 'cone' as well as the length of the thread, this reaction can happen. It can be due to the above. This should settle in time, often up to 4-6 weeks. In some cases, careful extraction of the end thread (if this is the cause) can solve the problem.
