Breast augmentation questions. Do I have to remove clip-in hair extensions for the surgery?

Thank you for your question.  If there is metal in your hair extensions, they will need to be removed prior to surgery.  Typically you would stop using Phentermine two weeks before your surgery date and for a week following surgery.  Your eyelash extensions should not be a problem.  With conscious sedation you will not feel or remember any pain.  Of course, as you mentioned, you will want to check with your own plastic surgeon regarding their guidelines. Thank you for your question. 1. If they have metal, yes. 2. No, eyelash extensions are fine. You can let your anesthesiologist know so that they go easy on the tape. 3. Please speak to your surgeon about this. 4. You will not be able to feel anything. Please speak to your plastic surgeon about these questions as well as every surgeon has their own protocols. 

Advice and protocols vary from surgeon to surgeon. Most important is to follow your surgeons advice because his or her approach is based upon their experience with your procedure. The use of hair extensions should be fine as long as there is no metal clipping them in.  Eyelash extensions should be fine as well.  For medications it is important to discuss all prescriptions, supplements, and non prescription medications that you take with your surgeon prior to surgery as opinions vary.  During conscious sedation you will be able to move but you will probably not remember anything after your surgery.

Thank you for your questions.  I advise patients to discontinue these types of medications 2 weeks prior and after surgery, however check with your surgeon regarding the Phentermine. The extensions can remain attached, unless they contain metal. Your eyelash extensions will not be a problem during surgery.  During conscious sedation, you can move around and will not likely feel pain, but may feel tugging.  Best of luck with your surgery.

If your hair extensions have any metals, they will need to be removed prior to surgery. Eyelashes should not be a problem, but I don't recommend getting them refilled until after surgery. You will need to stop all diet pills at least 2 weeks prior to surgery and at least 2 weeks after surgery. However, I would suggest discussing all this with your surgeon first. Phentermines are not safe to use.

All metal objects are required to be removed prior to surgery.  Eyelash extensions should not be a problem.  Phentermine should be stopped 2-4 weeks prior to surgery and can be resumed when your surgeon allows you to do so.   I always use general anesthesia for my patients during this procedure.  It is unlikely that you will feel anything during conscious sedation.  These are very good questions to ask your plastic surgeon as every surgeon has their own instructions/restrictions.  Communication with your surgeon is the best policy!  Best of luck!
