Skin type 2, sensitive skin, what's your recommended scar creams/tape/ointment post-op?

Hello, Surgeons. Curious to know what products you recommend to your patients to apply to their scars? Skin type II. Fair, sensitive and scars turn reddish and then darken if I don't apply anything normally. Scar areas would be lollipop lift and lipo incisions on flanks.

Generally speaking, I recommend Biocorneum Scar Gel to my post-operative patients. It is a silicone based scar gel that also contains SPF. Apply twice daily, massaging it into the scars for 10-15 minutes, to help break down the scar tissue.

Dear roseypinkgirl,
scar prevention begins in the OR during the surgery when I meticulously close wounds in multiple layers in order to reduce tension and reduce scars width. I tape my incisions during the early postoperative period to reduce micromotions of the tissues so the incision can heal earlier. I also use compression garments and later Biocorneum gel.

Once the stitches or tapes are removed, then you can start scar products like Mederma or Scar Guard or even the scar silicone tapes. I would suggest using them for 6 months and avoid all tanning.

Hello! I recommend to all my patients silicone sheet for at least 3 months once the wounds have healed (usually around 2 weeks). You wear the sheets on the scar at all time except for shower! That's really the only proven postop dressing shown to improve the scar appearance. I also recommended scar massage :)

Thank you for your question. Post operative scar treatment requires constant pressure on the wound to flatten the would and change colkor from red to pink to white.

Scvar creams do not apply pressure. Silicone Tape Scar dressings can fall of with sweat andmovement.

In my practice, and in my opinion the best scar treatment is Mepitac scar tape. I have patientys apply it and leave it on for 5-7 days then change to a new piece. I start the tape about 3-4 weeks post surgery. If it irritates in the beginning wait another 3 weeks to start. If you have tape allergies it may be a problem as Mepitac has an adhesive
