Surgery, specifically a tummy tuck, does not worsen existing vitiligo patches. The surgical trauma does not cause new white patches to appear at the wound site or aggravate existing white patches elsewhere. Therefore, vitiligo is not a contraindication to surgery, including tummy tuck, body lift, or breast lift procedures.

Before any surgery, labs, an EKG, and a chest X-ray will be ordered to assess your overall general health. However, vitiligo typically does not show up in bloodwork. If you are medically healthy, even with vitiligo, you can still undergo a tummy tuck.

A tummy tuck and breast lift can be done on patients with vitiligo. The breast lift technique I recommend is The Bellesoma Method. This will reshape your breast tissue creating upper pole fullness without implants, elevate them higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation (in 95%) and the ability to breast feed are maintained. A tummy tuck can be done at the same time. If you are not planning future pregnancies, I recommend abdominoplasty with mesh reinforcement. The mesh creates a more hourglass figure by compressing the abdominal wall resulting in early satiety and helps maintain a reduced weight.
