Can this large black mole just beside my cupids bow be removed without distorting the lip shape? I went to a dermatologist he removed another mole from my face but refused to remove that. He said removing the mole beside my cupids bow will deform my lip shape. What to do? I really want to get rid of this.
Answer: Recommend having this excised or shaved off. Follow excision with laser treatment to help minimize scarring Mole removal begins with a comprehensive examination and consultation to determine the likelihood of a mole being worrisome. Excisional and incisional biopsies are reserved for suspicious moles. But it’s good news that most moles are not problematic and are only cosmetic, thus leading to the option of scarless or non-surgical mole removal with lasers and RF and plasma. Our office specializes in non-surgical mole removal. Best, Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian Realself 100 Surgeon

Answer: Mole removal of cupids bow I have done many of these moles. In fact the images of a removal I performed is on the before and after photos on the side of the page. Lip distortion is always a concern. In order to know for sure a proper examination of the lip and skin quality in the area is needed. I don't usually recommend shaving the mole. There are a number of other techniques that I believe yield better results for moles similar to yours. I have included a link to some helpful photos on my website.

Answer: Removal of mole beside cupid's bow The mole on your upper lip beside the cupid's bow appears raised. A raised mole could be shaved off without distorting your lip. You might get another opinion from a facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon.

Answer: Challenging Mole Removal from Lip / Face That mole on the right side of your upper lip is a challenging one to remove nicely -- you have darkly pigmented skin so one tricky aspect would be that you don't want the area to appear a lot lighter than the surrounding skin once it is removed. In other words, you don't want a light spot instead of a dark spot! You must be realistic that removing this mole is likely to make it better, but it might not ever be "perfect" or totally disappear. Also, you may always face the challenge of hair growing from the area but the hairs can be plucked out if you desired. Caution is also warranted if you have ever had an keloid formation from scarring in your life. Mole removal from the face is not an extremely involved procedure, but if you want the result to be cosmetically beautiful, wtih minimal scarring and no obvious depression or pigment change from the area where the mole was removed, you need to choose a surgeon with expertise in mole removal from the face. I have removed many of these sorts of moles. Best of luck in your search! Damon B. Chandler, MD Harvard-Penn Trained Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon
