Is there a difference in recovery time between a facelift and forehead reduction? I am also curious about the difference in surgical methods between a facelift and forehead reduction. Would it be safe to proceed with forehead reduction after having a facelift?

Thank you for your question. A forehead reduction and a facelift are two very different procedures that address separate areas of the face and achieve different aesthetic goals. A forehead reduction focuses on lowering the height of the forehead by advancing the hairline forward, which helps improve facial proportions in the upper third of the face. It does not significantly affect the cheeks, jawline, or neck, and is primarily aimed at shortening the distance between the brows and hairline. A facelift, on the other hand, is designed to rejuvenate the mid and lower face by repositioning deeper facial tissues to improve sagging, reduce jowling, and soften nasolabial folds. When performed using a deep plane technique, it restores support to the underlying structures for a more natural and long-lasting result without changing the hairline or forehead position. 
These procedures can be safely performed at the same time when appropriate, allowing for a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation in a single surgical setting. Combining them can also reduce overall downtime compared to staging procedures separately while achieving more balanced results across the entire face.
Specific recovery guidelines may vary slightly depending on the surgeon and individual healing, but based on my practice, immediately after surgery patients can expect compression garments or bandages with swelling in the treated areas and use of gentle icing. By day 7–10, sutures or staples are typically removed and many patients feel comfortable resuming driving if they are off stronger pain medications. During weeks 2–6, swelling continues to improve, most patients return to regular daily activities by week 4, and final results gradually refine over time.
