In Oct 2020, I had liposuction on my upper arms, flanks, upper + lower stomach, inner + outer thighs + knees. Surgeon removed 1300ccs of supernatant fat. Given the # of areas I expected more fat to have been removed. The scars are the only indicators of liposuction. I'm 5'9 and weighed 166lbs day of surgery, with approximately 48lbs of that being fat (based on a DEXA scan day before surgery). Would it have been possible to have more ccs of fat removed? Should I seek a revision? Thank you.
Answer: In rare cases up to 10 L The amount of fat that you describe is very little, but it always depends you bodytype. 1300cc is an average amount for lower stomach an flanks but if you are a model this amount can be a lot. Concerning a revision, if you pinch these areas and feel more than just a 1-2 cm skin, a revision makes sense.

Answer: Fat removal Surgeons have different styles and comfort levels based on their skill and experience of how much fat they remove. Your BMI at those numbers is 24. That is a relatively low BMI for high-volume Liposuction procedures. Of the 48 pounds of fat in your body not all of it is accessible with Liposuction. There’s fat and all your organs, Brain, bone marrow, and visceral fat etc. etc. Liposuction is a way of changing someone’s fat distribution. If you liposuction all parts of the body then you’re not really changing your fat distribution at all. Many people typically regain the weight removed from liposuction within the first year and if that is removed from all areas equally than the weight gain often comes back in the same fat distribution. In other words if you selectively remove it all the fat from your extremities but not your torso then your extremities would proportionately look smaller than your torso. If you remove that from your extremities and your torso then proportionately none of them look smaller because they were all treated. This is why full body Liposuction is in someways a bit pointless though it can make a difference especially if people lose weight on top of the procedure. Without weight loss Liposuction especially when The entire body is treated can sometimes show less impressive results. Still, the numbers are very conservative. I anticipate I would have removed at least 2 L of fat from your torso, 300 mL of fat per arm and lower extremities would most likely have delivered 600 mL per side. I’m 58 years old and my practice has been devoted exclusively to liposuction for the last 10 years. I’ve performed over 7000 Liposuction procedures in my career. I typically do two a day. If you want an assessment on the outcome of your procedure I suggest posting before and after pictures. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
