Can a chin implant help my short face syndrome or would I need jaw surgery?

Whenever I get tired and rest my back teeth together my lips push together and look kinda like old people not wearing their dentures. Could this be fixed (or improved) with a chin implant?

The best treatment for a short chin which is somewhat recessive is chin lengthening. This is accomplished with a sliding genioplasty which allows for adding length and advancement of the chin. In addition, I would recommend simultaneous jawline and submental liposuction.

A chin implant is the easiest way to correct your deformity.  It is done through an intra-oral incision, takes about 1 hour to perform under general anesthesia and costs $4,000.

Placement of a chin implant for a recessive chin is much less invasive than jaw surgery. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure, which takes about 30 minutes. If your teeth are significantly out of alignment, consider jaw surgery performed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia in a hospital setting with an overnight stay at the hospital and is much more invasive.
