White spots on lip after Juvederm (Photo)

Question

I just got juvederm a day and a half ago. I bruise easily so I expected the bruising. I'm concerned about the white areas on my lower lip. I'm going to call the physician who did it tomorrow but I'm so worried now that something is really wrong. It doesn't hurt and I don't really feel any lumps.

This is typically from the lidocaine anesthetic in the lips, if it doesn't go away in the day it may be superficially placed filler that needs reversal or massage.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question. From your photo this looks like superficial placed filler. You can gently massage the area and they should go away with time. However, you can also have this dissolved with hyaluronidase. I recommend having this evaluated by your injector to determine the best treatment plan. Best of Luck!

The white spots may be just a reaction to the product and bruising or it may be product that is injected too superficially.  You will have to wait a week to evaluate the full results to determine if you need to have the product removed.  For the best cosmetic results please consult an expert in lip injections.  Best, Dr. Green

Your injector will best be able to advise you, but from your photo the white spots do not look concerning.  With gentle massage and time they should go away.  If not and it turns out to be superficial filler, it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

Thanks for your question.  I think I see what you are talking about in your photos.  These little white to yellow pinpoint spots might be Fordyce Spots, which are misplaced oil glands.  They may have always been there, but with your lips augmented they may have become more noticeable.  It is also possible that this is superficial placement of filler, though I think this is less likely. I suggest you go back and discuss this with your physician injector. Best of luck to you!
