Thank you for your question. To begin, Bosley is not a hair transplant technique and is instead a corporation that provides hair transplant services at different centers across the country. Neograft, on the other hand, is a device that assists your surgeon in performing a follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant procedure. I think that what you are looking to decipher is whether the traditional strip method or whether the FUE method for hair transplants would be best for you. In my experience, and having performed hundreds of hair transplants using both methods, the FUE method using the NeoGraft technology has yielded very natural results with very minimal downtime/recovery time and discomfort and no need for general or sedation anesthesia. Additionally, the FUE technology affords the patient the ability to undergo a hair transplant procedure without the tell-tale linear scar of the strip method. If you are interested in having a hair transplant procedure, I would highly recommend consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon who is well-experienced in hair transplants and the various technologies offered. Surgeon expertise paired with your aesthetic goals, medical history, physical exam and lifestyle are all critical factors when determining which method is best for you.
Bosley uses the strip method which creates a long scar on the back of your head. The FUE with Neograft leaves small tiny white dots on the back of the head which a barely noticeable. The FUE is less painful and has a much faster recovery than the strip method.
Bosley is a chain hair surgery offering strip procedures and now with some centers offering FUE. They rely heavily on advertising and your quality of result is not dependent on their brand but individual surgeon. They do not use robotic technology.Neograft is a handheld FUE tool with suction extraction. There are two current versions available since Neograft’s launch. Here are some of the factors prospective patients should consider when using Neograft:Does suction damage the graft? This is a controversial element and information varies depending on how you speak with. The consensus is that suction can potentially harm a hair follicle. There are Neograft physicians who turn the suction element off due to damage and use it solely as a handheld FUE device. Is it any better than handheld FUE? The answer is probably not and potentially worse. Handheld FUE is where you manually extract the hair while in Neograft it is vacuumed up a tubing. How does it compare to ARTAS? ARTAS is unquestionably a superior technology. ARTAS can control the exact angle, uses artificial intelligence to help detect ideal hair follicles, can make micromilleter adjustments, and has no fatigue. Neograft is a handheld FUE attached to a vacuum. Are there concerns with Neograft? The model of Neograft is to have technicians come to your office and do the case for surgeons who don’t specialize in hair. This can lead to poor results as hair restoration is not just up having technicians extract and throw hair follicles on your head. It should be a carefully planned procedure with physician guidance including hairline design, use of regenerative techniques, hair angle design, and ensuring the graft quality is ideal. The traveling team of technicians model does not seem to be ideal. Can I save any money with Neograft? The biggest misconception in hair surgery is saving money per graft. Pick the technology you believe is the best and the surgeon and his team standing behind their work.Best Dr. Anil Shah
NeoGraft and Bosley are two very different entities. NeoGraft is a device designed for use by hair transplant surgeons to perform FUE (follicular unit extraction) hair transplants. Bosley is a company that performs hair transplant as one of the services that it offers.I always recommend consulting with a fellowship-trained hair restoration surgeon to discuss all of your options (including NeoGraft) in detail. All the best,
We have found that the value of the NeoGraft is for the Automated Hair Transplantation System using Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) which leverages innovative technology to remove individual hair follicles from the scalp in their naturally occurring groupings of about 1-4 hairs that are then placed in the areas of the scalp where balding has occurred. NeoGraft is the preferred treatment by board certified facial plastic surgeons for the flexibility for any hair style - short or long, shorter recovery time, naturally looking results, 1-2 week recovery time, few complications and local anesthesia/no intravenous or intramuscular sedation.
Thank you for your question. It can also be read as what is the difference between follicular unit extraction (Neograft is an example) and the strip method (often done at Bosley). The main difference is the scar left on the posterior scalp with the strip method versus a lot of small (<1mm) scars with follicular unit extraction method. The latter allows one to wear the posterior hair line very short without concern for a visible scar.
This is a great question. Bosley is a corporation that provides hair transplantation services. Neograft, among other such machines, is a device that assists the surgeon in performing FUE (follicular unit extraction) procedures. The majority of procedures performed at Bosley are "strip" procedures, meaning a strip of scalp is surgically removed from the occiput (back) of the head, processed, and then transplanted to the areas in need. Results of the "strip" and FUE/Neograft are comparable. The disadvantage of the strip method is the risk for a painful, unsightly linear scar that could prevent patients from wearing their hair short in the back of the head.Patients who consult at our practice and at Bosley are pleased with the personal attention provided to them at a "boutique" practice such as ours. At our practice (vs Bosley), they are able to meet one-on-one with the physician (me) at their first complimentary consultation. Hair transplantation is not cookie cutter in nature -- arriving at a personalize plan is critical to achieving great results!Best of luck!
Neograft is a tool or an instrument used to do FUE surgery.Bosley is a medical group that offers FUE surgery. So technically Bosley doctors can use the Neograft and do the FUE surgery. The results ultimately depend on the skill and reputation of the doctor, not the instrument they use.
...Bosley is a large company that has offices all across the country. Each office is run by different personnelle so quality will range fro office to office. NeoGraft is a technique to extract grafts. While I may be wrong, I think Bosley uses primarily the old strip-method that leaves a large scar running across the back of the head. NeoGraft doesn't. The quality of your NeoGraft experience will also range from office to office. Hope that helps.
"Bosley" is the name of a large corporate practice with multiple locations. "Neograft", on the other hand, is a tool that a physician or a technician can use to perform a method of hair restoration called "Follicular Unit Extraction" or "FUE". They are not exactly comparable things. If you are referring to linear vs FUE, these are decisions you should make with your surgeon. The most important factor is that you know your surgeon, have met with him or her to discuss your goals and to be informed of the various limitations and advantages of each method of hair restoration. FUE procedures have become much more popular in the past several years as advances like robotic technology entered the hair restoration surgery market. The primary advantage is the lack of a linear scar, which allows for flexibility in terms of hair styles in the future. The robotic hair restoration system ARTAS was developed by a company called Restoration Robotics, and is the first device of its kind: it performs the FUE procedure robotically, and in an automated fashion, reducing the time and increasing the accuracy of the extraction process. I suggest you meet with an experienced, dedicated hair restoration surgeon to discuss the various options open to you.The experience of your surgeon and the dedication of his or her practice towards hair restoration are much more important factors than which company or device you choose to be used for your hair transplant procedure.
