Silicone implants are softer and smoother (less rippling) than saline implants when you place them on the table side by side. However, when placed in the body, under the muscle and if the patient has enough skin and fat to cover the implants, I bet you would have a very hard time figuring out which is which. That is why although silicone implants are 'better' from that standpoint, I ofter tell patients it doesn't matter which implant you get because once they go in you'll have a hard time telling the difference.
There are over 300 types of implants in the inspire line. They offer a key benefit: they are filled more fully, so may cause less rippling. On the other hand, saline has a higher risk of rippling and have a firmer feel than silicone cohesive gel.
This is a great question and there are a number of variables that go into picking the right implant, including most importantly your goals and expectations. But your anatomy, and in particular the amount of breast tissue you have to begin with, plays a large part. The short answer is that for many patients you can achieve nice result with more than one type of implant, and with the availability of round or anatomic implants, textured or smooth walled implants, the options for patients have increased. What this means is that it's really important to sit down with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon to go over your options in detail and together make a plan that will work best for you. Thanks for the question and good luck!
Silicone implants are a better product. They feel more natural and give the surgeon the opportunity to create a more pleasing breast. They feel more like natural breast tissue than saline. I usually recommend silicone gel Natrelle for our patients. They also are available in different projections which in my opinion give greater flexibility for the surgeon to achieve the patient's best breasts.
Silicone implants feel more like natural breast tissue whereas saline implants tend to have more waviness and bounce more when jumping or running especially in those with small breasts.See a board certified plastic surgeon for best advice.
Silicone breasts implants look and feel more natural than saline. More important than the implants is the plastic surgeon you select. Meticulous pocket dissection to produce a ‘hand-in-glove’ fit for the implants is essential for a natural and long lasting result. Many plastic surgeons have a gallery of 100+ breast augmentation before and afters that will show you results of silicone, saline, and shaped, form stable gummy bear implants
You should consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon where you can probably feel the implants themselves. (Ask if you can before you make the appointment.)Click on the link below to find out more about saline versus silicone gel breast implants.
Especially for patients with little breast tissue saline implants can feel like water filled bags and have visible ripples. However well positioned implants, under the muscle without hardening or capsular contracture can look equally beautiful with either saline or silicone. The most important thing is to choose your plastic surgeon wisely. Board certification and experience are essential.
This is a good question and one we used to get a lot, especially in the first few years after silicone gel implants came back to themarket in 2006. Now we do not get thequestion as often since most women come seeking silicone rather thansaline. This does not mean that salineimplants are not good but when compared to the silicone implants, especiallythe gummy bear or highly cohesive, 5th generation breast implants there is notmuch question that they are better. Thisis because:Saline implants are prone to leaking ordeflating. This results in having tohave another operation. Saline implants are often over filled to get theprojection that many patients want and this will tend to make them harder.Saline implants, because they are filled withsalt water (saline) can much more “wavy” and look a little less natural thansilicone implants. The advantages of the newer gummy bear implants are:They are form stable and therefore have muchless chance of a rupture and thus you having to have another surgery. They feel a little more firm outside of you butmore natural inside you, especially if you have a textured implant. They tend to have better warrantees, the best ofall being the implants from Sientra. These implants include a 5 year warrantee for the problem of capsule contracture. This is the main complication form breastimplants and Sientra will replace your implants if you have a problem with acontracture. The form stable implants like Sientra’s implants, facilitate 24 hour recovery protocols better than other implants since nomassage, special bras or bandeaus or required with them and you can back toyour regular activities much more quickly as a result.I have added a video that I think will help you. I hope that helps.Best regards.
It depends on how much natural breast tissue you have. If you have very little tissue, the saline feels like water bags to some patients with the frequent problem of rippling along the edges that you can feel and sometimes see. The silicone feels more like fat, so more natural.
Signs of infection include redness, warmth, chills, swelling, pain so it would be a good idea to go see your surgeon as a precautionary measure. From the photos, since the redness is on both sides of the breast, it may be dermatitis from steri-strips, tape or if you are wearing a new bra....
It is perfectly normal to have post-op bruising following any surgery, including a breast augmentation. That being said, definitely mention this to your plastic surgeon to see if it needs to be further evaluated. Best of luck. What you would worry about is a hematoma or post-op...
