I got bruises & swelling on my side after Breast Aug. Is it normal? (Photo)

It is perfectly normal to have post-op bruising following any surgery, including a breast augmentation.  That being said, definitely mention this to your plastic surgeon to see if it needs to be further evaluated.  Best of luck.  What you would worry about is a hematoma or post-op bleed.

And most often is related to surgery or the injection of local anesthetic. This resolves in 2-3 weeks. 

It is normal for one side to heal differently from another. Swelling and bruising post-operatively is expected, however-- it is best to address all of your post-op and recovery questions to your operating surgeon during your follow up visits.

The short answer to your question is yes.Rarely do both breasts have exactly the same forces applied to them to create the space necessary to place an implant.  Also, try as your plastic surgeon will, he or she can't stop every little capillary from bleeding after surgery, therefore one or both sides may have bruising, and bruising often leads to swelling.  At 4 days, the bruising and swelling you display in the pictures you sent do not worry me, however only your plastic surgeon knows exactly what went on during surgery. Thank you for your question.  If one side is bruised and noticeably more swollen than the other then you need to contact your surgeon ASAP as it is possible that you may have a hematoma.  Your surgeon will need to see you in order to determine if that is what has happened.

minor bruising may occur, but you should watch for any one-sided breast swelling that could signal a hematoma ( a collection of blood under the skin).  I recommend discussing this with your surgeon. And make sure you keep your follow up appointments.

Minor bruising after breast augmentation is quite normal. The small amount of blood that accumulates deep in the tissues can take a few days to come to the surface where it is noticeable.You should discuss your bruising, your recovery, and other questions you may have with your surgeon, since a photo isn't as accurate as a physical examination and assessment. I noticed most of your bruising is on your right side.  The presence of blood or bruising around a breast implant increases the chances of developing a capsule contracture.  Most people who are right handed tend to use their right side more after surgery.  The more you move your arms the greater the chance for blood and serous drainage to accumulate after surgery.  The more the blood or fluid around the breast the more the swelling.  I'm assuming you did not have drains.  The use of drains is what I call the great equalizer.  People often forget and use their arms more than ideally after surgery.  Right handed individuals will then to use their right arm 3X more than the left.  This leads to increased bruising on the right side.  Drains will evacuate bloody fluid so that both breasts will start out with the least amount of fluid and swelling after surgery.  I frequently see a higher rate of capsule contracture on the side the individual uses more.  Its important to realize if you want both breasts to heal the same you must start off with the same level of arm usage i.e. the same amount of blood or fluid around the breast.  For some individuals a little blood is not enough to stimulate their bodies to grow scar but for other who are more scar prone such as Asians and African Americans this is much more critical.  Therefore I recommend drain usage in Asians and limiting activity to virtually nothing for two weeks after surgery. 

 Difficult to give you good advice based on the photographs; your plastic surgeon will always be your best resource. Having said that, some degree of asymmetric bruising/swelling is to be expected; your photographs do not appear too concerning to me. Again, for the best advise and/or reassurance, best to address your questions/concerns directly to your plastic surgeon. Best wishes.

Bruising and swelling can be normal following breast augmentation.  However the amount of swelling and the fact that it is on one side overly could maintain that you have developed a hematoma.  Please see her plastic surgeon as soon as possible for an examination and diagnosis.
