Yes, I consider it major surgery. This surgery will change your body and self image. Implants will require replacement 10-15 years in the future. There is a scar and healing time. Most women are very pleased with the results.
Breast augmentation is real surgery and should be approached seriously. That said, if done correctly it can deliver excellent results in less than hour with relatively little pain during recovery.Breast augmentation is avery powerful technique in the right hands, and can have dramatic results in avariety of breasts types. Most important is aconsultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon regarding thisprocedure. Don’t settle for less!
Breast augmentation is an elective procedure that is "major". Like any medical treatment, you should be relatively healthy and be mature enough to understand the risks related to the surgery for a better outcome. In Canada, you can have surgery while still being a minor, however no reputable surgeon will perform your surgery if it is deemed dangerous for you.
A breast augmentation usually takes less than an hour and there is essentially no blood loss. It is a very safe procedure but it is a major operation.
There are many operations that are more complex, while there are many procedures that are less complex.
I would say yes, but there is no clear definition of major surgery. Minor surgery is that which can be done under local anesthesia. Although it is major surgery the risk of major complications is low and recovery is quick. Most patient can resume normal activities in 2-3days with the exception of lifting. You should still make sure that a board certified plastic surgeon in performing your surgery. There are no age restrictions for breast augmentation but some health conditions may increase your risk of complications such as bleeding disorders, congenital abnormalities of the chest, or conditions which negatively affect wound healing. Your plastic surgeon will perform a history and physical exam to make sure you are an appropriate candidate for surgery
The short answer is yes. It is a major surgery. As such you need a careful preoperative evaluation and perioperative management to make sure things go smooth. Part of that management is making sure you are a candidate for surgery. See a board certified plastic surgeon to clarify all this points. Best
I would not call a breast augmentation minor surgery. You are anesthetized, you take narcotic pain medications, you have a (brief) period of disability. But most women are functional the same day, and back to work in 3-5 days.Age requirements are a minimum of 18 years old (22 for silicone gel), and general health must be OK.Thanks, all the best.
Breast augmentation is real surgery, not just a minor procedure. But it wouldn't be considered by most to be "major" surgery though there is no specific terminology there to distinguish what constitutes "major." Go to the best and safest doctor who has substantial experience and as long as you're healthy and have anesthesia by a anesthesia doctor, you should have a good experience.
A test can be done to detect nicotine prior to surgery, but not all surgeons do this. Please discuss this with your surgeon. Smoking inhibits healing and can affect the final outcome. Good luck.Sincerely,Dr. Michelle Spring
I definitely have patients with some degree of discomfort 2-3 weeks after breast augmentation surgery. It is also common to have more pain in one side. This may relate to a bit more swelling or bruising on one side. In some cases, I feel that it is even related to handedness...
A person with Turner's syndrome is not a contraindication for undergoing surgery/anesthesia. Consult a Board Certified Plastic surgeon. A brief review of your current health status should reveal if its safe to proceed with surgery. Best of luck to you.Kind regards,Gary Horndeski M.D.
