I am scheduled for the procedures on Dec 16th. Apart from being nervous, I am just not clear on how to take care of personal hygiene as Doc said I am supposed to wear compression garment 24/7 How would a person go to bathroom and potty? Won't garment have musky smell if no underwear worn? I am a clean freak and this is puzzling me. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated
Answer: Hygiene You would remove the garment to go to the bathroom. You should also be taking showers and keeping everything clean and dry.

Answer: Personal hygiene can be problematic but is necessary after and abdominoplasty. There's no reason why you can't perform necessary personal hygiene after and abdominoplasty. Some adjustments will need to be made because of needs of convalescence but your surgeon and nurse can help you work these out.

Answer: Tummy tuck garment and personal hygiene Dear Sara,Each plastic surgeon has his or her own protocol for this. You may end up having either an abdominal binder or a compression body suit of sorts (like Capri pants). If you have the body suit there is an opening in the front so you can go to the bathroom. Obviously going #2 will require taking the garment off so "24-7" has a few exceptions. Most patients do the best they can with sponge bathing until they are able to shower. I don't think you ever feel clean until you can shower but that's just part of the process.Al the best,Dr. Remus Repta

Answer: Hygiene after tummy tuck Your plastic surgeon should be able to give you instructions on how to take care of your incisions after surgery. I allow my patients to remove their compression garments to shower, but every plastic surgeon is different and you should contact his/her office for specific instructions. Good luck.

Answer: Compression garments and hygiene after tummy tuck and liposuction You will be wearing this garment 24/7, it is important to prevent infection, and hygiene plays an important role in this. You can call and ask your Dr.s office if the garment will have a snap or open crotch, most of them do. I would also ask if you can order a second garment so you can clean one while wearing the other. You may have to pay for the second garment. Also, as far as using the restroom , they will advise you on the best techniques for bathroom issues, depending on what garment you will be in. I have advised patients to buy flushable personal wipes, some have gone and gotten a female urinal at camping stores, etc. The best way to be informed is to call his or her nurse and get as much information regarding the garments and post op care.
