Duck lip after fillers. Any suggestions? (photos)

Question

two days ago I got 1 syringe of juvederm in my top and bottom lip, there's still loads of swelling but my upper lips hangs over my bottom, my lips are also a bit stiff and I just want to know if this will subside? I have attached a few photos

Thank you for your question.Swelling and bruising can last up to two weeks after filler has been injected into the lips. If the swelling has not subsided within two weeks, contact your injector for a follow up appointment to review your concerns. At that point, if you feel as if your lips are over-filled, hyaluronidase can be injected to help dissolve the filler.To be sure, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment.I hope this helps.

Your lips are still swollen following the treatment. In general, the swelling following a lip augmentation can last for up to two weeks. It would be best to give it a little bit of time and then reevaluate. If the condition does not improve, hyaluronidase can be used to dissolve any excess filler. It is normal to have swelling after lip injections but if you are having problems, have questions or concerns immediately after your injections, I recommend contacting the physician who performed your injections.

Your lips look a bit swollen in the photo. You should use a cold compress and give it a week or two to settle down. You were likely given a mirror during your treatment. If you were happy at that time, there would have been no real swelling immediately after injection. If the swelling got bigger later that day or the next day, then it is normal swelling and you should go back to how you looked right after your treatment.If you feel that it still looks bad in two weeks, you can have the filler safely dissolved.

Hi Ashley. Your top lip is definitely bigger than your bottom lip, but you're only two days out from your injections. Swelling can take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to fully resolve. If after 2 weeks your top lip is still bigger than your bottom lip then you may want to consider having the filler dissolved with Hyaluronidase. Best of luck.

Thank you for posting your photos as it helps a great deal with making observations/recommendations. First, from just a visual inspection, your lips are a bit over filled but that may be due to several factors such as swelling which is caused by underlying inflammation or a buildup of fluid under the skin of your lips. Many things can cause swollen lips, from a minor skin conditions to the more severe allergic reactions however that may only be a small part of the whole. Another reason may be Angioedemawhich is a related type of swelling that affects deeper layers in your skin, often around your face and lips. The most common treatment for hives and angioedema is antihistamine medication. While extremely rare it is due to "angioedema-type acute hypersensitivity" This type of swelling occurs due to fillers containing HA and lidocaine which have become available, with the goal of increasing patient comfort. However in my personal option give the swelling a couple days and if you are still unhappy with your results, go back to your doctor and have the procedure reversed with Hyaluronidase

It is too early to determine the final outcome but the upper lip seems over-volumized. If you have concerns at the 2 week follow-up, the physician can reduce that effect with Vitrase.

Thank you for your question.It is not uncommon to be swollen for a few days after your lips have been augmented.  Most of our patients have swelling for less than 24 hours.  Be patient it will likley settle soon if swollen.  Cold gentle compresses and arnica may help.Of greater concern is the significant asymmetry of the lips.  The lower lip should be more full and more pouty than the upper lip.  Throughout the face there are anatomic ratios that are associated with a beautiful and youthful face.  In the lips the lower lip should be 1.6 time taller than the upper lip.  Your upper lip has good shape but it appears a too large.  Your lower lip should have a more fullness centrally and overall be a little more tall (full).I would suggest you follow up with the treating physician and see what their opinion is regarding your lips.  If they think they look good and do not want to improve your outcome seek a second opinion.  Hyaluronidase , injected into the upper lip, will decrease the fullness in less than 24 hours.  A week later, more volume can be placed in the lower lip to create better harmony and a more attractive lip.Always seek treatment by experienced injectors. At present, your upper lips is much bigger than your lower lip.  This is the wrong proportions.  Lower lip should be 1.61 times bigger than the upper.  Your upper lip should project more than your lower, that is not wrong.  Although swelling could take about a week to subside, I don't think the ratios are going to be right.  Hyaluronidase can be used to dissolve the filler if you are not happy. I like Restylane Silk for lips now.

The swelling after Juvederm in the lips takes at least a week minimum for the swelling to subside. The firmness will soften with in a few days to a week.
