24 Hours After Lip Filler (unknown type of filler) - What is happening to my face? (Photo)

Question

I got a lip filler injection about 24 hours ago and immediately saw small purple spots above my lip, by my nose, spreading toward my nasolabial fold. This area was numb, which I figured was due to the numbing agent used prior to the injection. Now, as seen in the photo, I have redness spreading on only the right side of my face, with a burning pain right under my right nostril. I also feel pressure in this area. What is happening to my face? Could I possibly have vascular occlusion?

It could be that filler went into a blood vessel. You should go back to your doctor immediately in order to avoid tissue death or other complications to that area.

I agree. This can happen when filler is injected into the arterial system or compress the arterial system.  I recommend that you return to your injector asap.  It is possible to inject vitrase or hylanex into the artery to help dissolve the material.  Your case does not look extreme, but has some classic findings. There are also other techniques to treat this problem.

I think it's possible since you didn't have any filler Injected where it's mottling and it doesn't seem like an allergic reaction. It's possible one of the ascensing arteries is affected. You skin tone looks good. I would call your injector and have him or her see you soon to evaluate this.

Hi there, I recommend that you return to your injector immediately. Given them a call and tell them about the symptoms you describe above. There is a possibility the the filler is blocking a blood vessel and it may need to be dissolved to allow blood flow and try to prevent skin/tissue death.

When there are skin changes and discomfort in areas beyond the sight that was injected, you have to be concerned about filler injection into a vesse. This can cause death of skin that is affected.  Immediate evaluation is needed by a very skilled injecto. Most likely hyaluronidase is needed, with heat and blood thinners.  This is an emergency. Although other cases on realself have been more severe, this may progress to being worse than it is now.
