I just changed the tape on my incision and noticed that there is a small hole that's yellowish I'm wondering if it ok to put tape back on it or should I let it get some air. I'm kinda worried but can't get in touch with my ps until Monday
Answer: Wound separation Thank you for your pictures. The small separation can be addressed with local wound care. It should heal without incident. I would not cover it back up. I would treat this with moist to dry dressings until you see your plastic surgeon. Earl Stephenson Jr MD DDS FACS

Answer: Wound delay after tummy tuck Thanks for your question and photos. I'm sorry that you are having small area of slow healing, but this is not uncommon after a tummy tuck. This may be a small suture infection (abscess) or inflammation as the sutures dissolve. This will usually heal very well with some local wound care. I typically have my patients clean the are with peroxide and apply bacitracin antibiotic ointment to keep the area moist to speed skin growth across the wound. Check with your plastic surgeon when you can. Leaving it open a few days will most likely not hurt anything. Good luck!

Answer: Wound in tummy tuck Hello dear, thank you for your question. You can put an sterile gauze in the part of the incision that is open, i wouldn't recommend to put the tape back because it could be contaminated, and sterile guaze Will salve your Problem until you reach your doctor. Good luck!

Answer: Maybe suture extrusion Dear jeanette,At 4 weeks after your surgery, a small opening in the incision is likely a suture extrusion (knot spitting). Your surgeon can take a look and try and remove the suture knot. In the meantime you should contact his/her office to see how they want you to manage the site. I suspect they will want you to leave it open to air.All the best,Dr. Remus Repta

Answer: Small opening in my incision 4 weeks post op In general, it looks like it will be fine - it's hard to tell from a photo (with the level of certainty you'd like) but things like this are common after a tummy tuck. I would probably advise a patient of mine with this issue to keep the area covered with a non-stick bandage (like the inner part of a band aid) and schedule an appointment to come in and be seen in person. I'm assuming that you don't have anything going on, like fever, chills, sweats, drainage, etc. That being said, I would also not advise that you wait for several days to speak with your PS. Most likely, there is someone covering your PS while he or she is away and the most prudent course would be to contact that surgeon and see if there is a different recommendation from the above.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. E
