Severe injury after minor Sjögren lip biopsy – can this be fixed? (Photos)
Hello everyone, I am writing this because I am deeply hurt, exhausted, and searching for answers. What happened to me was the result of two negligent doctors performing what should have been a simple minor salivary gland biopsy for Sjögren’s syndrome. During this biopsy, they cut my muscle, injured my nerve, and removed approximately 40 mm² of oral mucosa. Afterwards, they sutured my muscle together with my mucosa, without proper reconstruction, and then abandoned my case. Today, I live with: permanent-looking lower lip asymmetry functional paralysis and visible deformity severe fibrosis inside the lip that extends down to the muscle altered sensation and loss of normal movement a constant feeling of tightness, pulling, and restriction I also do not feel my lower lip from the outside. The numbness is constant, and it affects me when I speak, eat, or touch my face. I am aware of contact, but the sensation is abnormal and incomplete. To be honest, I am living in a nightmare. This injury has affected my face, my speech, my daily life, and my identity. I do not recognize myself anymore. I am writing here to ask — honestly and desperately: Is there any way to regain sensation? Is there any possibility to look and feel closer to how I was before? I am not looking for legal advice or blame. I am looking for hope, shared experiences, or knowledge from people who have suffered severe complications after a lip biopsy, nerve injury, muscle injury, or deep oral mucosa fibrosis.
