Hello, I currently have a silicone chin implant and I'm considering switching to Medpor. I'd like to share my surgical history and ask for your professional opinion. February 2017: My implant was placed intraorally (via the mouth) during a rhinoplasty operation. Unfortunately, it shifted upwards on one side, causing visible asymmetry. (1st surgery: shift in the upper right) September 2017: I had a revision surgery, and the implant was fixed with screws. Despite this, I still have noticeable asymmetry. Since then, I’ve had temporary hyaluronic acid fillers, which improved the appearance but only for 4–6 months. Over the years, I’ve had consultations with many doctors. Some were reluctant to perform another surgery, saying removing the implant might cause soft tissue damage or make re-insertion difficult. Recently, a doctor suggested removing the silicone implant through a submental incision (under the chin) and replacing it with Medpor. Now, I’m trying to make an informed decision. Here are my questions: What are the pros and cons of switching from silicone to Medpor? Can Medpor be inserted intraorally, or is submental incision the only reliable method? Is it true that removal of Medpor is very difficult if needed? What is the risk of numbness (lip, gum, chin) or infection long-term? I’m also wondering: if the silicone implant is removed, would a new silicone implant (repositioned properly) be a viable alternative instead of Medpor? Thank you for your help.
