My chin has always been a little recessed but I was wondering if a chin liposuction would give me a sharper jawline. I have always had a little extra fat under my chin due to my chin being recessed even when I have low body fat %. I am fine with my weak chin but I just don't like how the extra fat covers my jaw. When i am in public, I push my lower jaw forward, making my chin look normal but I still can't see my jawline. I am currently on invisalign fixing my overbite.
Answer: Treatment for a weak chin It seems that you know exactly what is causing this appearance - you said you push your chin forward when in public. So, if you want a more defined jawline, then the treatment would be to strengthen your chin bone. This can be done with an implant, fillers, or with surgery on the bone. Liposuction is unlikely to help since this is not related to excess fat.

Answer: Jawline Definition / Jawline Enhancement / Facial Sculpting / Facial Contouring -- injectable fillers like Revanesse Versa For a more defined jawline to strengthen your profile (and help prevent the dreaded jawline "jowl" sagging), we use injectable fillers like Revanesse Versa - a filler known to limit swelling and give subtle, soft enhancements - or Radiesse. Using a cannula to limit pain and swelling, we inject on the bone in strategic points to get more lift and shaping, resulting in a more contoured lower face and defined, structured jawline. I would suggest getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Chin lipo You would likely benefit from submental and jawline liposuction to improve contour and definition of your jaw. A chin implant would increase your lower facial balance.

Answer: How well Would chin liposuction suit me From the limited photographs, it does not appear that there's that much fat in your neck, so liposuction would only give you a minimal benefit. You would get more benefit from placement of a single chin implant placed under local anesthesia which would give better structural support for the soft tissues in the neck.

Answer: Choosing the correct procedure Procedures should be chosen based on having a clear understanding of the problem is. The first step is then to get an assessment or in other words get an accurate diagnosis. As you mentioned yourself at lower fat levels the problem persists. You don’t have an abnormal fat distribution. The problem is not related to access subcutaneous fat but instead based on bone structure. If you choose a procedure that doesn’t Address the primary problem your results will be partial at best. Liposuction can give improvements especially on individuals who have substantial amounts of body fat to remove. A small mandible causes the platysma muscle to drape the neck and oblique fashion. This is the primary reason for your facial profile contour. To get an accurate assessment in regards to bone structure I suggest consulting with local oral surgeons. Plastic surgeons are generally soft tissue oriented and will generally steer you towards chin augmentation with implants and Liposuction. Oral surgeons tend to make assessments more based on bone structure. Both specialties contribute to this type of work and it’s not a bad idea to consult with both oral surgeons and lasting surgeons to get a good understanding or assessment. Understanding the primary problem can be helpful in the decision process of choosing what procedure to have. There’s inherently nothing wrong with having these procedures but recognize that the underlying primary problem is lack of projection of the “body” of your mandible not the “mentalis”. The best candidate for getting quality liposuction results are generally young individuals who have a good skin elasticities and have at least half an inch of subcutaneous fat(two layers of skin and two layers of fat) when examining and pinching the skin. Lean individuals with thin layers of subcutaneous fat will have very subtle results from Liposuction. Based on the information posted I think your results from Liposuction if done well will be in the right direction though the results may be a little more subtle than you had hoped for. Delivering consistent quality Liposuction results is not as easy as most people think. Anybody interested in having this procedure should choose their provider carefully. Do that by having multiple in person consultations. Bring pictures of your face to use as a reference when looking at before and after pictures. Ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures of the previous patients who had similar facial characteristics to your own. This is the best way to get an understanding of what type of results you could expect. Being shown a handful of preselected images representing the best results of a providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like or what results look like of someone with your candidacy. Ask providers to specifically on the show you before and after pictures of previous patients who had similar characteristics to your own. Similar age, same gender, same amount of body fat and similar shape mandible. An experience provider should have no difficulty showing you at least 50 sets of before and after pictures of commonly performed procedures. In reality highly experienced surgeons will have hundreds or even thousands of before and after pictures. Look carefully at before and after pictures to make sure there are no contour irregularities consistently on multiple examples. A sufficiently experienced surgeon should have a collection of before and after pictures that reads like a telephone book. The same general principles of properly vetting providers is true for almost all procedures. There are significant differences in the outcome depending on who you choose to do the procedure.Being board-certified in plastic surgery with years of experience and overall good reputation does not mean that somebody has mastered liposuction. Personally I recommend patients have at least five in person consultations before choosing a provider. Defined the best provider you may need more than that. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of provider selection both in regards to getting a quality assessment and delivering consistent quality results consistent with the assessment. In the end there are only two variables that matter when it comes to cosmetic surgery outcomes. Patient candidacy and skill of the surgeon. Understanding your own candidacy for the procedure is the first step and that requires having in person consultations. The ability to make accurate assessment and deliver predictable outcomes is the hallmark of a sufficiently qualified provider Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
