Thank you for writing in with this question. There are several reasons why a hair restoration will fail, and nearly 100% of the time it is the failure of the surgeon and his team to perform the operation properly. It’s not an easy procedure, and just because a given physician has acquired the ARTAS robot is by no means a guarantee of a good, nor even acceptable result. The robot is not like a car wash where you stick your head in a “presto” out comes your head with all the hair moved to it’s new location. Instead, think of the ARTAS system as a paintbrush….it’s merely a tool. No paintbrush of any value can guarantee a beautiful painting. Same with the ARTAS system. It helps the surgeon perform only one of the many aspects of hair transplant surgery; most of the procedure is still done by hand. It is not the technology, but the talent, experience, dedication and long track record of success of the physician and his team of technicians that will determine the cosmetic outcome of a hair transplant procedure. Everyone's hair will grow back at different rates with hair transplantation.  You must give your hair at least 1 year to assess the success of your treatment.  The ARTAS varies depending on the type (9x is best), your hair transplant team, and if regenerative techniques were utilized.  Best Anil Shah

Typically, we expect to see results from hair transplant surgeries between 6 months – 1 year post-op. Since it has only been 4 months, we cannot say with full certainty that the procedure was failed. Everyone’s hair grows at a different rate. With a little more time, you may begin to see hair growth in the transplanted area.That being said, botched hair surgeries are not uncommon, and unfortunately, tend to have a higher rate among robotic methods of hair transplant surgery such as the Artas. There is controversy about the Artas method of hair transplant among the hair restoration community, which you can read more about on my site. I recommend getting a second and third opinion via in-person consultations with other hair restoration surgeons before going forward with any hair transplant procedures in the future. 

ARTAs is only an instrument. It is not a different type of surgery.  The key to best result is finding the best doctor.
Example: Owning a sail boat doesn't mean the owner knows know to sail (or sail well).

Poor growth after FUE transplant can sometimes be related to scalp disorders or poor patient selection.  In the setting of healthy virgin scalp in caucasian and asian men with relatively straight hair good results can be expected.
Sometimes in larger cases with less experience graft survival can be an issue.  Also ongoing hair loss can confound bad results.  Using LLLT, PRP, Finasteride, and Minoxidil will give you the best results after the day of your transplant.

It is a difficult question and there are many factors involved for a successful hair transplant surgery. Donor harvesting with FUE (ARTAS or another punch technique) is ONLY one of the six  steps of hair transplant surgery. My suggestion is to get a 2nd opinion in your town. Good luck.

The hair growth at 4 months does need additional time before it can be properly evaluated as a failure or success. If this was your hair growth at 8 months, then I would be worried. You should wait 4 more months and then really consider your options. 2nd or 3rd opinion is always a good idea. If you had 3100 grafts transplanted with ARTAS, then your donor area maybe be depleted if more harvesting is done and a transplant at this point may have to be a STRIP procedure at this point unfortunately.

You report that you had poor growth after ARTAS transplant. This must almost certainly be caused by a team failure of the transplant process
