Why does my nose bridge look wider after multiple rhinoplasties?

Hello, I have seen quite a few rhinoplasties where the nose bridge ends up looking wider than before. Is this caused by a specific technique that I can avoid? What is the purpose of doing this? Thank you.

If you're multiple rhinoplasty surgeries involved lowering your bridge, it's possible that a wide nasal appearance could be due to inadequate infraction of the sidewalls of your nose. Other causes for a wide nasal appearance after multiple rhinoplasties are too many cartilage grafts.Is considered re-asking a question with before and after photos. Thank you. Dr Joseph

In most rhinoplasties, one of the major goals is to make nasal dorsum to look slimmer. However, in some instances, when patient has narrow nose, asymmetric nose, after nasal injuries, correction may result in wider looking nose. Some procedures for improving function of the nose and better breathing may need widening, frequently with use of cartilage spreader grafts. Hope this helps.

Hello! Great question. A wide nose on front view can occur if the grafting is too significant or the bones are not appropriately narrowed after a hump is removed. Additionally, if the tip structure isn't narrowed, for example when deprojecting / downsizing the nose, then increased width occurs. It's important to take measurements during the operation to stay objective and take photos in clinic to allow for realistic expectations to be discussed. Hope this helps!
