Whether or not you peel while taking accutane depends on a lot of factors. The peeling is really just skin that is too dry, and not necessary for an effective treatment. As long as you are seeing improvement in the deeper, cystic lesions and the more superficial bumps of acne, you are making progress. Some people can tolerate a higher dose as their skin gets used to the accutane, so discuss the most effective dose for you with your dermatologist at your next visit. They may increase your dose if you tolerate it very well and are not too dry, but I can't say for sure since you are not my patient. Hang in there and I hope your skin turns out beautifully!
Thank you for your question. A common side effect of Accutane is dry skin, dry eyes or nose. Some patients may peel due to the severity of the dryness, but some patients may only experience dry lips. It is not necessary to peel while taking Accutane, however, Accutane is a weight based medication. So a certain amount based on your weight has to be taken to ensure maximum efficacy. I highly recommend you consult with a board certified dermatologist regarding Accutane treatment. Take care and good luck.
Not everyone will peel from Accutane and this does not mean it is or is not effective. The way Accutane works is a specific mg of medication continually taken over a specific amount of time. So you can peel the first week on it, or not, or month 3, or not. And none of that makes it more or less effective.
