9 months post op Botox, I have droopy eyelids. Is this normal?

I had Botox 9 months ago (for the first time) and experienced the drooping eyelids. I am concerned because the Botox should be gone after 4 months. I am scared that this is this permanent? Is there anything that I can do? Thank you.

It is unlikely that there are any residual effects of your Botox injections which were administered 9 months ago.  You may have had an underlying ptosis prior to your injections in this could be determined by examining old photographs.  I would strongly recommend evaluation by an eyelid surgery specialist to learn more about what changes have taken place in your particular situation.

Botox would have worn off after about 4 months and your muscles would have regained their previous strength at the 6 month mark. Your best course of action is to see a plastic surgeon so he/she can determine the cause and give you options for treating the problem.

The effects of botox generally last 3-4 months. Its more likely that the droopiness in the eye lids are part the the aging process. I would recommend that you visit a plastic surgeon in your area to find out what your surgical options are. Best of luck

Dear ElaineYou are correct that Botox usually has little effect at 4 months after injection and it would certainly have no effect at 9 months. Drooping eyelid have many causes. We often get them as we age. The good news is that they can be treated safely with great results.I recommend you seek the advice of a well trained doctor in your area that has experience with both cosmetic eyelid surgery and treating droopy (eyelid ptosis) eyelids. If you have true ptosis, experience in managing ptotic eyelids would be paramount.

After 9 months, the neuromodulator (Botox) has definitely worn off and the droopy eyelids you see are independent of your prior injection. I recommend you see an experienced injector to assess your eyebrows and eyelids to get a proper analysis and treatment recommendation. It would also be helpful to compare before and after pictures (if any were taken, which I always do for my patients). One can perform a chemical browlift with Botox by injecting certain areas (glabella and crows feet). By the same token, one can get droopy eyelids and/or eyebrows if injected into the wrong area. By this time after Botox treatment, the product has worn off.  Botox is not permanent.  Follow up with your surgeon.

Hi Elaine. You are correct in that the effects of Botox only last 3-4 months. So, whatever Botox you go in long gone by now. I would recommend scheduling a follow up appointment with your injector so that you can compare before and after photos to see if you had some degree of eyelid drooping prior to your treatment with Botox. Hello, botox should have worn off a long time ago. I suspect this is what happened... Before people have a plastic surgery procedure, they rarely critically look at the area being treated. But after the procedure...they start to look... a lot. They notice things that they never noticed before. Often these new finding by the patient can be found in preop pictures...but again the patient never noticed them before. It is possible that you actually had some droopy eyelids before the botox and due to the procedure and new focus on the area are noticing it more now. If it was a botox related cause...the droopness would have been present soon after the procedure. Also, there are injection techniques that can raise the eyebrow and thus help correct droopy eye lid skin...so if you injector did that for you...then after the botox wore off...again you are now noticing the loss of the botox effect of the eyebrow lift. I dont know where you had the botox injected so I can t say for sure.I would return to your Plastic Surgeon so they can examine you and talk specifically about your anatomy and needs.Thanks.
