I had Botox for frown lines and have sharp or shooting eye pain. Is this threatening? Will it go away?

I got Botox for frown lines 11 days ago. Injections were given above eyebrows and in-between eyebrows, more on right side to level eyebrows. Since day 4 I felt eye discomfort as if something in my eye. I am at day 11, I have some slight eye pain on and off and I have felt a shooting or sharp pain for a second around 4 different times. Could this be threatening to my eye sight? Will this go away? Please advise.

Thank you for your question about Botox.It is difficult to answer this question in an online forum.Botox does not threaten the optic nerve.is best.An in-person consultation is best.To be sure what is going on, return to see your injector or see two or more licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have these treatments.I hope this helps.

Hi Angel. I have never had a patient of mine experience what you are describing after Botox injections. The best thing to do is to follow up with your injector (who is hopefully a physician) for an in-person evaluation. Best of luck.

Thank you for your question. What you have described is very rare and mostly likely the needle hit a sensory nerve. There is no need to worry as there is no long term effect. The nerve most likely has a small bruise on it and will take some time to heal. I recommend following up with injector for evaluation if this persists. Best of Luck!

What you are describing regarding the eye pain actually sounds like a eye surface problem like dry eyes.  Intermittent, sharp pain is typical of dry eyes.  It doesn't sound like anything that is vision threatening.  Usually botox injections in the forehead won't lead to dry eyes but sometimes after receiving botox injections, people become more aware of all symptoms around the eyes.  You should try over the counter artificial tears and it will probably resolve soon.

Botox is not threatening your eyesight.  Botox is painful at the time of injection, but not pain like you are describing.
