Can I take acyclovir while undergoing surgery?

Hi, I'm on suppressive therapy for genital herpes. I take two 400 mg acyclovir pills a day, and I'm going to have a revision rhinoplasty and chin augmentation done, is it ok to keep taking the medication, even the day of my surgery with just a sip of water?

In our practice, it is acceptable to take acyclovir before and after surgery.  It is   Always best to check with your operative surgeon about all medications  being taken.

Some medications need to be stopped before surgery like aspirin or blood thinners. Other medications are safe to take with a small sip of water. Other medications should NOT be skipped. I would have a discussion with both your surgeon and the anesthesiologist about your current medications and the safest way to take them around your surgery day. Acyclovir is actually prescribed to be taken before and the day of skin resurfacing procedures. Safety comes first.
