Can cosmetic tattoos or Botox, cause blepharitis?

I have never heard nor seen Botox or other wrinkle blockers (Xeomin, Dysport) to cause blepharitis.  Permanent eyeliner can sometimes be inflammatory.  Blepharitis is essentially inflammation of the lid margin.  There are anterior and posterior forms.  It can cause crusting, red eyes, be associated with dry eyes, and worsen eye infection risks.  Many of my patients with it have found great improvement of their symptoms with lid scrubs and particularly Avenova, which is a prescription eyelid scrub.  BlephEx is a new treatment performed by an eye doctor to clean the eyelid margin of inflammatory debris that can build up.  Warm compresses are also helpful.  If you are uncomfortable I would keep working with your ophthalmologist.  Nearly a 1/3 to half of patients going to an eye doctor can have some degree of blepharitis, so it is very common.
