Can cosmetic tattoos or Botox, cause blepharitis?

I've been having some complications with my eyes ever since I got them tattooed. I've been suffering some light sensitivity and blurriness. Coincidentally, about three weeks after having the tattoos done, I receive the Botox injections for facial spasms. My opthamologist now says that I have blepharitis. I'm not sure what the cause of this is period also, is this permanent?

I have never heard nor seen Botox or other wrinkle blockers (Xeomin, Dysport) to cause blepharitis.  Permanent eyeliner can sometimes be inflammatory.  Blepharitis is essentially inflammation of the lid margin.  There are anterior and posterior forms.  It can cause crusting, red eyes, be associated with dry eyes, and worsen eye infection risks.  Many of my patients with it have found great improvement of their symptoms with lid scrubs and particularly Avenova, which is a prescription eyelid scrub.  BlephEx is a new treatment performed by an eye doctor to clean the eyelid margin of inflammatory debris that can build up.  Warm compresses are also helpful.  If you are uncomfortable I would keep working with your ophthalmologist.  Nearly a 1/3 to half of patients going to an eye doctor can have some degree of blepharitis, so it is very common. situation. Botox is a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with
facial expression. Blepharitis is inflammation of the eyelids. It can be caused by multiple things including trauma from tattoos. Botox is not normally associated with blepharitis. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

Botox is extremely unlikely to cause blepharitis.  It is possible to have an allergic reaction to permanent cosmetic tattoo ink that could present as blepharitis.  That is also extremely unusual.  I would recommend seeing an ophthalmologist or dermatologist to make an accurate diagnosis.

Blepharitis is inflammation of the eyelid near the lash line.  It has various causes including skin conditions, infections and oil gland dysfunction.  Some people are prone to a chronic form of blepharitis.  Treatments do exist for relief of symptoms.  It was not caused by the Botox injections.  I would follow the treatment plan of your ophthalmologist.

Blepharitis is not permanent and is not related to the Botox injections. It is also not a likely side effect of tattooing either. I would be more concerned with your light-sensitivity and blurriness. I would follow any treatment regimen prescribed by your ophthalmologist and follow-up with regards to the light-sensitivity and blurriness.
