My main concern is my nose and lips. When I talk, only my bottom teeth show and I've always wanted a lip lift to show my top teeth. But I also plan to get nostril reduction/rhinoplasty and I wanted to know if this is something that should be done simultaneously or separately. And if separately, then which should I do first to avoid risk of my face being off balance?
Answer: Lip Lift + Rhinoplasty A lip lift and a rhinoplasty can be performed at the same time. If performed separately, I favor rhinoplasty first. I prefer not to mess with the alar base during a lip lift as the incisions are ideally placed in separate places. To answer your question, a rhinoplasty after a lip lift should not mess up the lip lift, especially if the alar base is untouched. Gary Linkov, MDLip/Nose SpecialistManhattan

Answer: Can rhinoplasty and lip lift be done at the same time? Many patient whom I see for a lip lift have had a previous rhinoplasty. Therefore I think rhinoplasty tends to lengthen the upper lip philtrum or at least create the illusion of a longer philtrum. I often do alar base or nostril floor resection to improve flaring of the nose at the same time as a lip lift and I find this operation very successful in my hands. I have to say that I have been doing this procedure for a long time and that I have a lot of experience with both rhinoplasty and the lip lift, so this might not be applicable to all plastic surgeons. I also don't see a reason why a rhinoplasty could not be combined with a lip lift, if there are indications for both procedures and the patient clearly understand the anticipated changes.

Answer: Rhinoplasty and lip lift done together. Rhinoplasty and lip lift done together. Yes I have done hundreds of these procedures together. You have only one recovery and it is less expensive. See a very experienced surgeon who can show you many photos of his results without a visible scar.

Answer: Thank you for your question. Unfortunately there are no pictures. There are different ways of performing a nose job and a lip lift. Different surgeons will give you different answers. I like to perform the procedures separately. In addition I like to perform the nasal surgery first. There are different ways of performing a nose job. As a former art student, from the LA county museum of art, I like to use advanced suturing techniques, with or without cartilage grafts in order to narrow and refine the nasal tip. I incorporate the finesse technique, which I invented. I typically do not pack the nose. Recovery and bruising are minimal versus traditional techniques. (Please see the nose patient ten days out video on our page). For central lip elevation I like to use the bull horn technique. I hope you find this information useful. Please see the enclosed video.

Answer: Lip lift and rhinoplasty A lip lift and rhinoplasty can be done together at the same time or separately. A rhinoplasty changes the shape of your nose but will not move its actual position. Therefore there is no risk of making your face appear off balance as long as each procedure is thoughtfully executed. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MDBoard-Certified Plastic Surgeon
