After the burning and bullfrogging, I am left with something more horrifying: my entire lower jaw feels like it is being pulled on. Smiling now gives me an overbite because the lower half of my mouth is having difficulty meeting up with the upper half. When I speak, one of my lips is drooping. Please tell me this is temporary. Note: The pain was excruciating, and I was sobbing throughout. Could the Dr. have "misfired" because the crying was making me move too much?
Answer: Did my Dr just give me nerve damage? I got Kybella 3 days ago. It’s hard to determine what happened and photos would have helped. The most likely cause of your problem is the temporary effect the injection has had on your marginal mandibular nerve which supplies the lower lip and chin. The problem is temporary so, although distressing and very aggravating it is not permanent, it will get back to normal in a few months.Just to be sure, please see your Doctor soon.

Answer: Do you understand now why we are saying this is a bad treatment? Your doctor probably did not "misfire". This product is well described to cause motor nerve injury. This is just a nasty product. It causes all sorts of inflammation. After all this inflammation and harm to the motor nerves, you will likely be left with very little treatment effect. Most people need 6 Kybella treatments at 4 to 6 week intervals. At the end of those very uncomfortable and expensive treatment, a full 40% of those treated in studies are dissatisfied with the results. Many of these nerve injuries recover but it takes time.If you are left with a motor nerve injury, I suggest you find one of the many products liablity law firms out there to help address your injuries.

Answer: Did my doctor just give me nerve damage? I got Kybella three days ago. Thank you for your questions. Sorry to hear about your experience. In my practice, while Kybella injections can be annoying and burning sensations are common, I have never had a patient describe it as "excruciating" so I would consider this abnormal. It is possible that there could be some nerve irritation, but in all likelihood this will be temporary. I would make sure you are following up regularly with your surgeon to monitor the nerve function and assure that is is slowly recovering over time. Good luck!

Answer: Kybella Dear tasukibeth1,I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.Kybella typically takes 3 to 5 treatments to work. This is why I've stopped carrying Kybella in my office. I recommend neck liposuction more often then any injectable procedure for the neck now. It provides superior results gives me more control over the area than any injectable. It also costs about the same as what you paid for your first kybella session. The liposuction can be done under local while awake in the office and recovery is about the same as kybella.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
