Thank you for your question. Does your gastrointestinal disease flair like an ulcerative colitis or Crohns disease? Occasionally patients are place on medication that could be deleterious to healing. One other point to remember the tummy tuck should not interfere with your bowel habits. Narcotics during recovery can effect the bowels, but the surgery itself should not have any effect on your function.
Not clear what your gastrointestinal problem involves but getting clearance from your GI is probably the safest thing to do. Good luck.
Thank you for your question. Your description of your GI condition is vague and would require some additional information prior to rendering an opinion regarding the safety of a tummy tuck. Best to discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon. Best of luck to you.
Thank you for your question. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "gastrointestinal". If you'd like a tummy tuck, I recommend you consult with a plastic surgeon in your area who will review your health history and discuss your options.Best,Dr. Dan KrochmalMAE Plastic SurgeryNorthbrook, IL
I am not sure by your description what your GI problem is. Best to give more detail so that an appropriate answer can be given.
Hello kamiya34,In order to make sure patients are optimized for surgery, a pre-operative physical is performed for surgery clearance. This is were the gastrointestinal condition/status would be addressed.A tummy tuck is indicated for excess abdominal fat, redundant abdominal skin, protruding abdomen due to stretched out muscles, unattractive skin texture and appearance especially surrounding the belly button (stretch marks), and loss of feminine silhouette. Depending on the patient once the abdominal skin is lifted, the underlying weakened abdominal muscles are repaired if needed.A consultation is recommended with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine the desired goals and the extent of surgery that will be needed to achieve these goals.

You need a good care giver to give you support, bring you to appointments, make sure you take the right medications in the right dose at the right time. If you have drains your care giver should be able to empty the drains, keep accurate records and make sure they maintain their suction....
You should expect to be well taken care of by residents in a plastic surgery training program such as Emory University. Keep in mind, however, that residents have very little experience at this stage of their career. Make certain you understand the pros and cons of making this decision before...
