Can I have anemia after TT and hernia repai?

Question

After my tt I was fine but after I stop the pain med like a week I start having headaches and vomit one time so I went to my doc and she said that I m suffering for migraine so she gave my med so I was fine in one day but then next day I'm feeling tired and still little headache and I still have one drain and the color was clear like apple juice but now change to purple I asked my surgeon and he said is bad blood but is good that s coming out but so I'm wonder if I can have anemia after my tt

Thanks for your inquiry and an excellent question. You can be anemic after surgery because of major blood loss in surgery-which is unusual after the surgeries you had or if started anemic in the first place before surgery.  If you have blood work from before surgery that would be helpful in knowing the difference.

Hi,You can have anemia after a tummy tuck, but your symptoms can also be from medications. I recommend following up with your surgeon so he/she can evaluate you to make sure you don't have other issues going on. Certainly, you can have a low blood count dependent on the amount of blood loss during the surgery.  The headaches/vomiting may be due to narcotic pain meds, headache/tiredness could be related to low blood count.  A complete blood count would define whether your blood count is low.  Consult your plastic surgeon.

Thank you for your question. You are expected to have a slight drop in your blood count after this surgery. If your counts are normal before surgery, you should be fine after. However, if you are anemic or borderline anemic before surgery, you should start iron supplements and have your counts checked before surgery again. Make sure that you consult with your plastic surgeon if you think you may be anemic before surgery.

That is a good question to ask, definitely possible to have anemia. I am surprised that the drain is still in. Ask the doctor to do a hemoglobin check on your next visit. The headaches can come from withdraw from the pain medicine.
