If I'm getting liposuction can I ask for a fat transfer?

Hello, aobcd, thanks for your question!  Yes! There are many cosmetic surgeons who perform liposuction with fat transfers to other areas of the body. The fat that is collected from the liposuction is separated into special syringes that can then be injected into whatever area you desire to be filled.  Some areas typically desired for fat transfer include the butt, tear troughs, and nasolabial folds or marionette lines on the face. For more information, I would inquire with a plastic surgeon near you to determine what areas he or she would recommend for liposuction and fat transfer, as well as any additional costs.  Thanks for your question!

Fat grafting required much more time than liposuction alone. You can expect it to cost more. If you are getting liposuction, I would definitely ask about it, as getting it done then would cost less than in a separate procedure in the future. Take care!

You can certainly have the fat you have suctioned transferred. I have my staff trained to process the fat from each area as I am liposuctioning the next area. That way when I finish all the liposuction I can start the fat transfer without wasted time. This leads to shorter, safer, and less expensive surgery. Discuss all this with your surgeon. Good luck.

Yes, I recommend fat transfer with liposuction. For best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result. Thank you for your question.  With Liposuction we treat any and all areas that will benefit the overall form of the patient.  The common "trouble spots" are the abdomen, back, waist, arms, and thighs. If you'd like to add fat transfer there will be an added cost based on the areas treated and the time the surgeon considers would be added to the surgery. That said, you definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety.  A key quality indicator is Board Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  Don’t settle for less than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

LIPO allows you to have stubborn fat resistant to diet and exercise removed from unwanted areas and transferred to areas that can benefit from the added volume like the buttocks and hips. Yes, there is an additional charge for processing and injecting the fat (fat grafting) after liposuction.  If you are interested in fat grafting, specifically if you want fat injection into the butt which requires a pretty large volume of fat, you should talk to your plastic surgeon before undergoing the liposuction.  If the fat is discarded at the time of liposuction (and not transferred to the butt), should you want this in the future, you may not have enough fat to lipo and transfer at that point.

You had better discuss this well before your liposuction so your surgeon can inform you of additional fees (a BBL is a extra procedure with additional fees) and they can plan OR time as it does take a fair amount of extra time to perform the BBL.  Good luck.Dr T
