How will a chipped temporary veneer affect my teeth for permanent veneer placement? (Photo)

Question

I just had my teeth prepped for veneers 3 days ago. Yesterday I woke up to a chipped tooth and had it fixed, only to find the same tooth chipped again this morning. I don't have any pain or sensitivity, it doesn't look like my real tooth has chipped and I can't keep redoing the temporary veneer as it costs me. My appointment is still a week and 4 days away. What's the best solution to all of this?

Hello,I would recommend scheduling an appointment with your dentist to have your bite evaluated.  The fact that your temporary veneer keeps chipping suggests that it is in the way of your natural bite.  If this issue is not fixed, your permanent veneer will likely fracture also. A chipped temporary veneer is very important. it gives dentists a lot of information. The fact that you are chipping the temp should tell your dentist that the temporary is in the way of your normal function. If the permanent veneer is placed in this position it will also chip. You need to visit with your dentist and discuss what changes are being made to correct this situation. Additionally, it is not common to charge for temporary repairs. I hope this helps.

There are many methods out there that dentists use to deliver smiles.  Some are better than others, but they all "work".  I feel that the BEST method includes using a diagnostic wax version of the final design, done before starting the case.  The prototype, the temporary veneers, will resemble the finals, so the dentist can see in advance if your new smile will work and will look good enough for you to be satisfied.If no planning or design was done, and your temporaries are just like your original teeth, you may be setting yourself up for future problems.  It is possible that the final material will be durable enough that it is a non issue, but it also may be that the design has flaws and should be re-evaluated.
