Can you get a veneer on just one front tooth?

Question

One of my incisors has a small chip on it that I have had bonded but the bonding keeps failing due to the location. It's a small chip but I am self conscious about it. What else or what is the next step I can have done since a composite filling is not strong enough for that location? Can I get a veneer on just that one tooth?

Hello there,Yes, you can veneer just one tooth.  I would recommend seeing a cosmetic dentist for a complete evaluation. A great way to get an idea of how well your veneer will match is to view before and after photos of actual patients that the doctor has treated.  This gives you a great idea of what to expect. yes, u can go for one tooth veneer. just tell yr dentist to show you before cementation , so u can check for shade and shape. after cementation nothing is possible.

Oh boy do I understand the concern over a small chip on the edge of your front tooth.  That chip, no matter how small can throw off the look you are used to and make one self conscious about it. Yes, we can do one veneer.  No problem.  And there might be other solutions.  I definitely recommend you get a second opinion to evaluate all your options.  And even sometimes bonding with different materials at a different office can make a difference to the longevity of the restoration.  (The web link I am linking here has several edges bonded..  More extensive than yours yes, however that has been in his mouth six years and still holding strong.)  That might work for you too.  Give us a call, it will be worth yoru while to consult with us.

The short answer is "yes".However, while not impossible, getting the color to match the other teeth takes extra effort.  The color of teeth is NOT a single shade, there are normally a minimum of 3, with other characteristics as well.  In this situation, it is likely that very little, if ANY, enamel contouring will be needed, but it may take a few visits to get it "just right".
