I'm almost 8 weeks post op from abdominal liposuction with Renuvion skin tightening. Is this type of rippling normal at my stage of recovery? I've been wearing my compression garment, working out, and doing at home massages. I'm starting to wonder if I should start seeing surgeons for revision surgery.
Answer: Uneven after lipo Dear Practical545768, while there is always a chance for contour irregularities with liposuction, someone who takes their time and uses the appropriate sized cannulas should give you a superb result.I have all my patients wear compression garments and I use multiple sized cannulas to feather out the result. It is probably best to wait until you are fully healed to see the final results. Answer: Post Op You are very early in the recovery process. It will take up to 1 full year to see the final contour of the abdomen and skin. There is some severe edema that takes quite a while to settle out. I would go back to see your surgeon to discuss options for addressing your concerns. Best of luck. I would recommend seeing a board-eligible or board-certified plastic surgeon to ensure that you are properly evaluated and that the correct safe surgical recommendations can be discussed and/or made.

Answer: Sometimes a touch is just needed. Renuvion is HORRIBLE ! Most docs won't go near renevion because of the all the complications it can cause. There will be a very select few who can do a decent job with it but then again it is like doing lipo under general-WHY RISK IT ! I would start looking around for a lipo guy who uses the micro canulas and does it under local and also uses Bodytite and Morpheus at the same time as well for the very best results.

Answer: Post lipo/Renuvion ripples This occurs very often with that combination of therapies as seen in your posted photos. There are 3 options: 1. S.A.F.E. Relook techniques with multiple aggressive post massages and compression fee $6,000. 2. Injections of hyper diluted Radeisse/Sculptra into the dents/valleys under local anesthesia in 2/3 sessions about 3-6 weeks apart. Fee per session from $3,000-$6,000 depends on # of vials/syringes 3. Combination of both 1 & 2. Best yo virtual consult with….

Answer: Liposuction results at eight weeks It takes three months for Liposuction to be final. At that point their results will not change with the exception of skin excision which can continue to improve for another year. I told my patients to hold off on judgment for the first six weeks because the first few weeks is way too early to judge the results. So at eight weeks your results are pretty close to resembling your final results and you should not expect much to change by waiting further. The results are direct reflection of how the procedure was performed which in itself as a direct reflection of the skill and experience of your provider or lack there of. Unfortunately Renuvion does not help and when I tried it for about a year and the only thing I noticed is patient had more pain during and after the procedure. I literally saw no skin tightening from this device whatsoever. Because your provider liked the skills to do quality liposuction you’re left with an uneven fat distribution. Recognize that delivery consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people think and this includes plastic surgeons. Revision work is many times more difficult than primary Liposuction so the importance of finding a talented provider goes without saying. And it experienced our surgeon inherently lacking talent can easily make things worse in any attempt at doing a revision of work. In some cases restoring people to normal appear in contour is difficult and sometimes not possible. The treatment options typically come down to revision the post section, fat grafting or a combination of both. Much of the ability to improve or correct the outcome depends on how over treated the worst areas are. In overtreated patients options become more limited because revision Liposuction can simply make things worse and they easily can if in the hands of a provider who doesn’t have sufficient skill and experience. Previously aggressive treated areas also typically lack sufficient post tissue to support grafted fat making fat grafting less effective and often requiring multiple operations. I cannot stress enough the importance of properly vetting plastic surgeons before committing to having procedures they will permanently change your body. The time to have done that correctly is the time when you chose the surgeon for your primary procedure. Still, if you want revisional work you’ll still have to go through it again and this time the importance of finding someone who is technically supremely talented is even more important. Defined quality providers patients need to take an active role in the vetting process and this should be done during in person consultations. Being shown pre-selected sample pictures of before and after pictures is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider. This is why patients need to ask providers to open up their portfolio and show their entire collection a before and after pictures for the procedures are interested in or at least as many as they’re willing to. An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing you a minimum of 50 sets of before and after pictures of a common procedure like abdominal liposuction. Highly experienced providers will have hundreds or even thousands. Look carefully at each picture for any areas of contour irregularities on the skin on any area that was treated. Ask the provider to review pictures with you and ask what areas were treated and what areas were not treated. Look carefully at transition zones between treated and untreated areas make sure that they blend nicely. Make sure you see pictures from all angles. personally I view the torso as a single anatomic unit and believe in treating the entire torso or not doing any Liposuction of the Torso at all. In other words I don’t spot treat the torso. By treating the entire torso it leaves patients with a smooth even naturally thin fat distribution on the entire torso without unnatural transition sounds between treated and on treated areas. I definitely encourage you to follow up with your provider so that here she is aware of the results they’re leaving. Your provider needs to either stop doing abdominal Liposuction or learn how to do the procedure correctly first. The number of consultations required to find the right plastic surgeon will vary but I would start with at least five and simply continue having consultations until you feel quite certain you found the right provider. For a vision work you can probably count on doubling that number. I also recommend patients read all reviews on various physician review websites avoiding providers for any significant number of justified negative reviews. The absence of justified negative reviews is more important and more telling than having an abundance of positive reviews. Some providers may not want to do revision work even though they have the skills. Taking on revision patients can be a thankless position since once a new surgeon operates on you they basically inherent all your previous problems and some cases simply cannot be corrected. Patients requiring revisions or those who have been disfigured typically also consume enormous amounts of time and are a lot more work than primary procedures. There are no non-surgical treatments they will correct the outcome of poorly done Liposuction. Finding someone who can restore your country to normal will require you finding a highly talented and experienced surgeon who has skill in both Liposuction and most likely fat transfer. These are very difficult procedures. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
