Should doxycicline injection be used to treat persistent seroma?

Question

Full drainless TT, lipo, breast lift. Everything looked great , but developed seroma on day 9 po. Treated with numerous aspirations. Reopened wound and excised cavity, placed suction drain for 8 days. 2 days after removal, fluid showed up again. About 9 ccs each day. I trust my ps and so I let him inject doxycicline in me today.

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear of your post-operative seroma issues. Doxycycline is an excellent sclerosing agent and should help close the space where fluid keeps accumulating. Hope this helps and good luck!

Tetracycline has been described and being effective in treating seromas by direct injection into the seroma cavity.

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear of your seroma issues.  I have not needed to use a sclerosing agent for a tummy tuck in the past but best to follow your surgeon's advice as they know what works best in their hands.  Best wishes.

Sorry to hear about the issues you are having. Sclerosing agents such as doxycycline have shown some benefit in treating such seromas caused by the accumulation of lymphatic fluid. Every plastic surgeon has different experiences with its use. I have personally not used doxycycline. I would trust your plastic surgeon. Regards

Sounds like you have had good care after your MM (TT, Lipo, BL).  Did you conform to #post-op TT instructions (activity restrictions, compression garments, drain care, etc)? #Doxycycline is used to sclerose or "scar" persistent lymphocoeles (collection of lymphatic fluid) so can be repurposed for your seroma.  Hang tight and follow your PS lead.  Good luck.
