Rhinoplasty with high blood pressure. Is it safe?

JG: While 140/90 is borderline high, it should be very safe for you to undergo rhinoplasty, which is a relatively safe surgery with minimal blood loss.  Just make sure to not exercise for a couple weeks after surgery in order to prevent getting your heart rate or blood pressure any higher than baseline.  Best of luck!

best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation.   You should review your medical history with your primary physician and make sure your blood pressure and other aspects of your health are optimized prior to surgery.

Any high blood pressure should ideally be controlled before surgery, particularly if it's elective surgery (like rhinoplasty).  Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. Be certain your surgeon is properly certified.  I've attached a link where you can start your search. 

Having borderline high blood pressure does not prohibit one from having rhinoplasty surgery. Your blood pressure will be controlled during surgery and there are numerous medications after surgery to control it should it be necessary.

Is very important to have your blood pressure under control before undergoing elective cosmetic surgery, especially a rhinoplasty.  A nosebleed can be the result of high blood pressure.  It is Important to get medical clearance from your Primary care physician and make sure your blood pressure is under control going into this type of procedure.  For more information and many examples, please see the link and the video below 

While your surgeon and anesthesiologist should be aware of your overall health including blood pressure, you may still be a good candidate. Ensure that you resume exercise and other vigorous activity only after you receive your surgeon's go ahead.

At age 30 years, a blood pressure of 140/90 is slightly high. Slightly high. See Family Physician to better control the blood pressure before surgery. High blood pressure predisposes to post operative bleeding.

Most likely this should be fine and you would do fine with surgery. In our practice anyone with high blood pressure before a surgery is further evaluated to ensure there are no further issues and may even warrant a medical workup by their primary care doctor.  

Having a blood pressure in this range is hard on your heart and blood vessels and increases the risk of cardiovascular issues and stroke. This should be treated with medication by your primary care doctor.Getting a rhinoplasty with high blood pressure is going to mean an increased risk of post-operative bleeding and an increase in bruising and swelling after the surgery. Blood pressure can be controlled during the surgery.An EKG and a work up for your blood pressure issue would be required prior to undertaking any kind of surgery.
