What's the recovery time for nostril reduction ONLY?

Thank you for your question!  Nostril reduction via wedge excision of the alar base to narrow the base is a relatively simple procedure that often can be done with local anesthesia alone and in the office. Minimal, if any downtime is needed. Sutures will likely need to be removed in 3-5d with limited restrictions for a short period of time.  Pain should be minimal as well. Recovery from nostril reduction is about 5 days. There is no packing used with a nostril reduction only.

Frequently sutures need to be removed a few days later. 1 week may be all that's needed for much of the recovery depending on a patient's lifestyle and work. Individual cases vary. The alar plasty procedure Involves narrowing the nostrils by removing a small wedge of skin at the base  of the nostrils.  Digital computer imaging would be helpful to understand what can be accomplished with the procedure. This can be performed under local anesthesia and usually involves a few stitches. Most patients are able to return to work in a few days after the surgery

Having Weir excisions is a procedure that will not have you down long at all. Sutures are out around 5-7 days. The scars can take up to one year to fully mature and soften but you could get back to light exercise in about 2-3 weeks.

Mild swelling that starts to rapidly resolve between day three and day five. So, essentially, once your sutures are out there would only typically be some very mild pinkness right at the scar line in the nostril crease. This can typically be performed under local anesthesi in my office.

Dear dkji,A nostril reduction is also know as a Weir procedure as well as a alar base reduction.  The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia and recovery is very little to none.  Often there is no bruising or pain after the procedure.  The external sutures are visible and should be removed in 4-5 days.  No nasal packing is needed.All the best,Dr. Remus Repta
