Is it possible to have fat grafting after fillers?

Question

I recently consulted with a surgeon about the possibility of getting fillers for a year or two and then full facial fat transfer. My problem area is mainly under the cheekbones. His preference is to do one or the other - for reasons that the scar tissue from the filler injections can affect the outcome of the fat transfer. Do surgeons who perform full face fat transfer believe previous fillers affect results. i have already had cheek/temple fillers previously in any case.

Hello katerina75, thank you for your question.  I routinely perform fat transfer to patients who have had various kinds of filers injected previously.  It is generally safe to do so unless they have had adverse reactions to fillers or other contraindications.  I usually tell my patients to either wait till the fillers fully resorb, or if hyaluronic acid based fillers are used, some patients would prefer to have the fillers dissolved by hyaluronidase prior to their fat transfer procedures.  It is, in fact, quite common for long term filler patients to transition to fat transfer procedures because of its longevity and if larger volume is desired/ needed.  Hope this helps.Goretti H. I personally think that it is ok to perform fat injection after fillers. I prefer that most of the filler has dissolved first.
