A year ago I had induce child birth, 10 days later I was diagnose with Pulmanory EMBOLISM, took warfin for 3 months then re do all my test over was told by my doctor am find.Whats my risk of having liposuction are tummy tuck .And if surgery is out of it what's my best option on losing the weight and my belly .
Answer: Can I have liposuction given my history of PE? Hi kayetucker and thank you for your question. It would be essential that you obtain medical clearance from your hematologist in addition to clearance from your primary care physician in advance of your surgery. Your previous history of PE would in theory place you at a higher risk for developing a PE again. I would encourage you to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your surgical options and candidacy based upon your medical history. If cleared from a hematological perspective for any surgical procedure it is likely that your surgeon will place you on lovenox post-operatively. Please make sure to consult only with board certified plastic surgeons who are well experienced in performing these body contouring procedures and remember that your safety and health is our number one concern. I hope this helps and I wish you all of the best.

Answer: Plastic surgery and pulmonary embolism Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. Safety must always be the number one priority. It is important that you obtain medical clearance from your hematologist prior to surgery. It may also be advisable to place you on short term lovenox after surgery. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Pulmonary embolism history and cosmetic surgery Kaye. A history of pulmonary embolism puts you at a higher risk of having another during any type of surgery. Liposuction alone statistically carries a lower risk for pulmonary embolism than Tummytuck. In either case you would certainly need medical clearance prior to surgery and Lovonox postop, as a precaution. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!

Answer: Agree with Dr. Hughes A hematology evaluation would be good place to start. I think that you would be able to have your surgery safely, in the end, but a thorough evaluation by several doctors would be necessary. Pulmonary emboli can occur after liposuction.
