Is this malpractice? Or is this a complication from surgery? I also have a lump in my stomach and pelvic that wasn’t there before
Answer: Liposuction burns Thanks for your question. It is unfortunate that you are experiencing this complication. Burns after liposuction is a complication that has been reported. This may occur with very superficial liposuction technique, sometimes in combination with certain modalities such as ultrasound assisted liposuction or VASER liposuction. The heat or trauma from the liposuction technique can damage the layer of skin that supplies the blood to keep it healthy- and the skin may die as a result. Local wound care is usually necessary, and sometimes excision of the burns with skin grafting may be required. It is important, in my opinion, that patients seek a qualified plastic surgeon to perform these types of procedures safely, and to manage complications effectively should they arise. You may want to consider seeing your original surgeon for follow up care, or seek out a new, board certified or board eligible plastic surgeon to direct your care from this point. Best wishes, Rohit Jaiswal, MD Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Liposuction Third-degree burns after liposuction certainly would be very unusual. My recommendation would be for you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon and try to find a good option that would benefit your situation.

Answer: I have severe/permanent 3rd degree burns from liposuction in Miami. Most ASPS boarded Plastic Surgeons use the ASPS consents for liposuction. In one of the sections patients sign there is a description of the complication of burns and healing. But you did not state if you had signed the liposuction ASPS consents or even received a copy of them? Unfortunately, especially with power liposuction techniques like Vaser, ultrasonic, laser lipo, SmartLipo, Power Assisted liposuction have this potential complication of would/skin burns. Therefore your question if this outcome is malpractice is an non issue if you had signed the liposuction informed consents.

Answer: Lipo in Miami I understand your frustration. It would be best to have more details and to examine you to help figure out your best coarse of action. There are many different liposuction methods such as internal laser (smart lipo etc), internal ultrasound (Vaser etc), vibrational, and conventional. Each has their own unique set of nuances and risk factors. Although liposuction has been portrayed to the public as an “easy” procedure it really isn’t. I can’t stress how important it is to have cosmetic surgery procedures done by a board certified plastic surgeon. Board certified plastic surgeons have the skill, knowledge and training to avoid such outcomes and also have the ability to deal with them in the very rare instance that they do occur . I wish you well in your recovery.
