In our practice, all supplements are stopped two weeks prior to surgery and can be continued two weeks post-op. We recommend discussing this issue with your surgeon. Best of luck with your upcoming surgery!
Thank you for your question. Although pre-operative instructions do vary from one plastic surgeon to another, I do advise my patients to avoid Asprin, Ibuprophen and fish oil/flax for two weeks before surgical procedures to decrease bruising and bleeding. Best to follow the specific instructions given to you by your plastic surgeon. Good luck.
Normal doses of Vit E prior to surgery should cause no issues. In case there are any other supplements in your shake, it's probably best to stop any and all supplements 2 weeks before your surgery. There are many other ways to increase protein intake without supplements, so try those instead. Best wishes.
Hi! Thanks for your question.I would not recommend this type of protein shakes for my patients. I suggest an alternative and discuss with your doctor. Good day. Dr. Aldo
Thank you for your question. It's best to follow the two week rule; discontinue the use of supplements two weeks prior, continue them two weeks after. Good luck with your procedure!
Thank you ktchloe for your question. Typically I tell all my patients to stop any supplements besides vitamin c and iron for a minimum 2 weeks before surgery and a few weeks after surgery. I would recommend following your surgeons protocol. Best of luck with your upcoming procedure.
Check the actual amount of Vit E you take per day. If you are keeping it below 400iu/day there is no evidence of increased complication rates. The easiest solution is to simply stop your supplements for a week or two before to eliminate ANY question.
I typically recommend patient to stop using all supplements prior to surgery. If concerned, call your surgeon's office and discuss your supplements with them. It is better to prepare ahead of time in order to decrease the chances of complications. Good luck!!
Thank you for your question. Every preoperative protocol is different but in general it is important to stop taking supplements that increase your bleeding risk prior to surgery. Vitamin E in higher doses can increase your bleeding risk and that is why you should avoid using it 2 weeks before surgery. I recommend touching base with your plastic surgeon before surgery. Good luck!
Protein before and after surgery is always a good idea! That being said, I would talk to your surgeon about the protein thought as you are ultimately their patient. Best of luck on your surgery!~Dr. Sieber
