What are the best procedures to treat contour irregularities post liposuction?

After having liposuction 5 years ago on my torso and inner thighs I've been left with banding under my skin, bumpy purple marks that don't go away... ever. It's sad because it has ruined my self confidence and my ability to wear a bikini or short top. (Think Tara Reid). What can be done to correct the bumpy, irregular skin, permanent purple bruising, and empty bumpy skin left on my inner thighs?

Contour irregularities after liposuction usually occurred from doc's using larger canulas under general anesthesia. Fixing contour irregularities after liposuction can be done quite easily with the micro canulas and bodytite RF under tum. local. If you are unhappy a revision procedure with skin removal or fat grafting, revision liposuction and internal heating may all be needed.

contour irregularity happens often when areas the undergo liposuction are not feathered appropriately. The good news is that it can be fixed and I have done so with good results before. While there is always a chance for contour irregularities with liposuction, someone who takes their time and uses the appropriate sized cannulas should give you a superb result.I have all my patients wear compression garments and I use multiple sized cannulas to feather out the result.

Thank you for your question. Overly aggressive liposuction, especially of sensitive areas without much skin elasticity such as the inner thighs, can lead to contour irregularities as you mention. On rare occasion the answer is more liposuction to even out the areas, but in the case of the medial thighs where skin is less elastic and fat has already been removed, your options as I see them would be fat transfer (modestly) to help improve the texture and contour, vs. potentially a skin tightening treatment such as J-Plasma combined with with scar release. what patients like you need more than anything else are honest and accurate assessment and recommendations.  Unfortunately we can only give an accurate assessment and recommendations if we have accurate information to go on.  Without posting proper before and after pictures no one can give you anything like that.  Instead, you will get vague generic nondescript answers.  The bottom line is poorly done liposuction is difficult to correct enough to not possible.  This is especially true if someone has been over treated.  The only realistic options are revision liposuction and or fat transfer. Of these revision liposuction can work well if people have not been over treated.  Revision liposuction is based on removing more fat, hopefully in a more even fashion to create a better smoother contour or even a result.  If the first liposuction procedure removed too much fat then removing more fat it's just adding fuel to the fire, insult to injury or whatever you want to call it.  Fat transfer does not work well because people over treated now or lack enough post tissue to support grafted fat in the grafted tissue dies with patients watching their attempt at revision and disappear week after week after the procedure.  That's it in a nutshell.       occasionally people with skin laxity can convert the procedure to a skin tightening procedure like a full abdominal plasty.  Consider re-posting with proper pictures. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
