Which chin implant would give me a smoother, prominent jawline?

Hello and thank you for your question and photographs submitted.Chin implants can be contoured before insertion and in my practice this is the norm. The decision regarding how much additional projection is needed is helped significantly by 3D imaging and simulations. Based on the degree of increase in projection and the width of the chin in the simulation it is possible to adjust the implant to match.Porous polyethylene implants ( Medpor or equivalent) can be shaped with relatively good precision. Custom made implants can also help.

Hello, thank you for your question. You may benefit from a chin implant, the chin implant will provide projection to the chin and balance your face more. I recommend you to schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.

There are a whole host of options for improving the chin and the jawline which range from a jaw advancement, chin advancement, implants in the jawline and the chin, skin lift or even fat injection. The best decision will come from a consultation, in person or through video, after considering all of these options by a plastic surgeon who has craniofacial training.

There is definitely deficiency in the jaw and chin here.  Your mid-face seem to be fine.  You have two options:1. Either go through Invisalign and re-create the over bite, then have jaw advancement surgery or 2. Sliding genioplasty with down grafting. 

 Chin implants are manufactured in a large array of thicknesses, sizes, and shapes which is going to best be determined at the time the consultation and examination. The chin, the mandible and implants are all three-dimensional, and the augmentation occurs in all three dimensions. This includes mostly  Forward projection, some lateral width, and a small amount of vertical height. What you are demonstrating is a total jawline effect which is classic when one protrudes the lower jaw down and forward. Only a custom jawline implant can create that type of 3D dimensional jawline change with a smooth linear border.  

pushing your jaw forward simulates treating the actual problem which is that your mandible is too small and lacks projection. The problem isn’t just the shape of your mandible but rather that the mandible sits too far back including your Dentation. Most likely you have an overbite. There are plenty of implants that will fit the needs of what you want. For those who have a small mandible with a pointed chin the outcome will look bulbous or that of a witches chin because they are not as good of a candidate as those with a back sloping chin shape.The outcomes you don’t like or not as related to the shape of the implant as they are to the candidacy of the individual.There are plenty of implant sizes to choose from and a standard implant can be adjusted by the surgeon without having to make a full custom implant.Realize That adding an implant is treating the symptom and not the problem.The correct treatment would be advancing your mandible but this is very complicated and usually not done for aesthetic reasons like you’re own. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
